SEPTEMBER 2021 LIBRARY READING CORNER
A Note from Library Director Allison Gray:
Welcome to the September edition of the Reading Corner. We are excited to announce that we will soon have a new online card catalog called Aspen for our patrons’ use. It replaces the current Polaris/Black Gold site. Black Gold has valiantly led the charge to establish this greatly improved search site. Goleta Library staff members have worked hard to configure the new software to make your searches easy and yield high results.
For example, when you type in a search term, say “Louise Penny,” your search will show all physical and virtual copies of her titles. However, you will no longer have to go to Hoopla and Overdrive’s sites to download e-versions of the items; you can do it directly from our search page, saving you time and effort. Also, the first search result screen will tell you what is currently available in every format, again saving you time.
Searches will eventually include links to library programs on topics you enter into the search field, as well as links to Staff Picks recommended reading lists that include that topic, title, or author.
In all, searching for and finding what you want should be much easier, more fun, and provide better results! We anticipate going live in mid- to late September. For best results, search the catalog from the Goleta Valley Library homepage (www.GoletaValleyLibrary.org).
If you have any problems with Aspen, please do not hesitate to call one of the three library branches or ask us for assistance if you are inside the library.
As a reminder, the three libraries are providing in-person service from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays as well as Sidewalk Service from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on the same days.
