Red Flag, Excessive Heat Warnings and Potential Public Safety Power Shut Off

Public Safety

The City of Goleta wants to inform the community of several important notifications we received from our allied agencies and ask that residents be vigilant and prepared.

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for southern Santa Barbara County from Monday evening through late Tuesday night. Expect gusty sundowner winds, hot temperatures, and very dry conditions. Be extremely careful with any source of ignition and stay alert! #CAwx #SoCal #CAfire\

Wind Advisory is in effect till tomorrow morning and an Excessive Heat Warning is in effect Tuesday, 6/15 @ 10 AM until Friday, 6/18 @ 9 PM

Additionally, Southern California Edison (SCE) has notified customers that it is considering a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) in many parts of south Santa Barbara County due to an increased risk for wildfires. This outage may begin as soon as late Monday night (June 14), though it may occur earlier or later depending on actual weather conditions. You can go to www.sce.com/psps to see if your address is impacted.  If you live or work in this area, you should make preparations for a possible multiple day power outage. You can also call SCE directly at 800-655-4555 with questions related to this potential outage. Even if you are not currently being considered for a PSPS, if outages were to occur in other areas of Santa Barbara County, there could be residual impacts.  Click here for tips on how to prepare.

SCE is establishing a Community Resource Center at the Independent Living Resource Center (423 W. Victoria, Santa Barbara) AND the Residence Inn (6350 Hollister Ave, Goleta) for those impacted by power shutoff.  Support is available from noon to 10 PM on June 14th and from 8AM to 10PM on June 15th. Support includes customer resiliency kits and personal protective gear.
