Tune in for the June 1 Goleta City Council Meeting

Council will hold a Proposition 218 Protest hearing and a public hearing to amend Title 17 of the Goleta Municipal Code, receive a report on South Coast Task Force on Youth Safety, and consider approving funding recommendations for the Goleta City Grant Program and Support to Other Agencies Program

We hope you will join us for Goleta’s virtual City Council meeting on Tuesday, June 1 at 5:30 p.m. Many important items are being discussed, and we encourage you to watch live and/or participate. Directions for how to do so can be found below.

  • Council will conduct a Proposition 218 Protest hearing. The hearing is to present the annual Solid Waste Rate Increase and allow the community to present written protests for consideration. This protest hearing is held by the City Council annually when the Solid Waste Hauler, MarBorg Industries requests a rate increase. View the staff report at https://tinyurl.com/59xytrzf.

  • Council will conduct a public hearing on an ordinance to amend Title 17 of the Goleta Municipal Code to excise provisions pertaining to temporary events, add a new chapter to Title 9 of the Goleta Municipal Code to regulate temporary events, and update Title 12 on parades, assemblies and special events. Provisions regarding temporary events in Title 17 will be moved to Title 9 and organizers of a temporary event will be required to obtain a permit to ensure that basic health, safety, and community welfare standards are met. Title 12 amendments will be conformed to reflect recent State law. Read the staff report here: https://tinyurl.com/cuxyvsu6.

  • City Council will receive an annual report on the South Coast Task Force on Youth Safety and consider a Memorandum of Understanding for Fiscal Years 2020/21 and 2021/22. The South Coast Task Force on Youth Safety (Task Force) is a regional partnership comprised of representatives whose mission is to improve the safety and quality of life for our youth, their families, and the community. The proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is between CommUnify, which will serve as “Host Agency,” and the four jurisdictions served by the Task Force, which are referred to as “Sponsors.” The staff report is available at https://tinyurl.com/7875szxt.

  • Council will consider approving the Fiscal Year 2021/22 Goleta City Grant Program funding recommendations of the Grant Funding Review Standing Committee and authorize the City Manager to enter into grant agreements with each organization at the approved amounts. The Committee is recommending that $93,500 be awarded to 29 applicants. Read the staff report, which includes a list of organizations here: https://tinyurl.com/2kzabb68.

  • City Council will consider approving the Grant Funding Review Committee’s Fiscal Year 2021-2022 funding recommendations under the Support to Other Agencies Program for the Government/Interagency and City Facilities/Recreation categories and authorize the City Manager to execute amendments to the grant funding agreement. The Committee is recommending that the existing agreements be extended for one-year at the current funding levels. View the staff report at https://tinyurl.com/pxw5xzyh.
