Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (PHD) is reporting the seventeenth and eighteenth deaths among individuals who tested positive for COVID-19. Both individuals resided in the City of Santa Maria and were over 70 years of age with underlying health conditions. As of today, there are 1971 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Santa Barbara County, 985 cases are at the Federal Prison in Lompoc, 986 are community cases, and 1664 have fully recovered.
“We extend our condolences to the families and friends of both of these individuals. Please, as we continue to open more and more of our economy wear your face coverings, wash your hands often and avoid gatherings.” said Henning Ansorg MD, Santa Barbara County Public Health Officer.
Although most cases of COVID-19 exhibit mild or moderate symptoms, PHD recommends additional measures to prevent exposure among vulnerable people, including the elderly and those with underlying health conditions (such as diabetes, cancer, immunodeficiency, asthma, COPD and others). PHD recommends that residents, especially those who are vulnerable:
- Stay home when possible
- When engaging in tasks away from home, remain six feet away from others and wear a facial covering.
- Wash your hands with soap and water regularly.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
