Goleta Valley Library's Reading Corner - July 2019

July marks a big change. City of Goleta will not only be managing the Goleta Valley Library, but the Buellton, Solvang, Los Olivos and Santa Ynez Valley Libraries as well. You won’t see any change in the level of service we have always provided to you in Goleta; in fact, we will continue to increase our services to you as we have done during the previous year.

Highlights from the Goleta Valley Library’s first year being managed by City of Goleta include: the Library of Things collection (watch a great segment on it here from KEYT TV), increased speed of getting your holds items due to our aggressive collection development policy, additional programming for all age groups, a multitude of annotated reading lists for patron use, and the evolution of our engaging Goleta Valley Library website.

We will be holding public meetings this summer in both the Goleta and Buellton/Solvang area to help arrive at a name for our newly-enlarged organization. My personal favorite is the Goleta and Santa Ynez Valley Library System, but I acknowledge that it is a mouthful! We welcome all of your suggestions.

Library Branch Information

We are so excited to welcome four new library branches into our Goleta Valley Library system! Information on the new Santa Ynez Valley branches can be found on the Locations page of the Goleta Valley Library website. Programming at each branch is also available on the Calendar of Events page. To search the calendar by branch, use the drop-down menu “Limit by Location” in the upper left-hand corner. Happenings at these branches will also be highlighted regularly in this e-newsletter.

A note to all Santa Ynez Valley Library Overdrive users: if you had holds on items that were only owned by the Santa Barbara Library System and not Black Gold, those holds are now cancelled.  We are not certain whether Overdrive will send you notifications, and you may have to check your Overdrive holds list to see if your hold list is still viable.

Summer Reading Fun!

The Library’s Summer Reading Club, “It’s Showtime at Your Library," continues at all of our branches through August 3^rd.  If your child or teen hasn’t already signed up, it’s not too late; you can sign up at any time throughout the duration of the program. Each branch has weekly special performances that you don’t want to miss. Check out the Calendar of Events  for the latest activities.

Learn about Library Services

Library Director Allison Gray wants to make sure everyone in the Goleta Valley Library service area is familiar with the library’s services. This is a great opportunity for community organizations, housing associations, and other local groups to learn about a great (and free) resource – our library! Allison will explain everything from how to place holds and download e-material, to how to take advantage of all the great programming that is offered. She is also interested in hearing from you.
