Ellwood Mesa Habitat Project Update - August 1

City News

The City held a community meeting last Wednesday evening and we were pleased at the great turnout. It's clear that the Ellwood Mesa is a beloved treasure within our community.

We appreciated the opportunity to provide information on the status of the Monarch butterfly habitat, the health of the trees and to answer the numerous questions and concerns.  The PowerPoint from the meeting can be found here.

Staff is working with our team of consultants on finalizing the action plan to remove dead and dying trees within the month of September.  Staff has also met with the Coastal Commission to discuss the process moving forward.

Many trails running through the Ellwood Mesa forest are closed and signage has been posted.  Several trails on the perimeter of the Mesa which provide access to the beach, remain open.  A map of the closures can be found here and the project page can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/goletaellwoodmesa.  Please remember these trails are closed for public safety reasons.  More information and FAQs can be found here.
