Project Background

The Larkspur Ferry Service Expansion and Parking Study was undertaken as a means to meet increased future ferry demand as travel between Marin and San Francisco grows, along with congestion in the U.S. Highway 101 corridor.

Future ferry ridership demand is based on the TAM Demand Model and indicates that when the Golden Gate Bridge reaches capacity, forecast to occur in the early 2040s, ferry service demand increases at a higher rate. Expanding ferry service will meet future demand for a reliable, climate-friendly transit option for Marin and Sonoma residents.

The study analyzed a wide range of topics, including traffic and parking at Larkspur Landing, air quality, noise, lighting, ferry wake analysis, biological resources, and other topics.
