REMINDER: SMART will close a portion of 2nd Street in San Rafael this weekend

Golden Gate Bridge District sent this bulletin at 05/31/2019 12:05 PM PDT

Over two upcoming weekends, the Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit District (SMART) will close a portion of Second and Third streets in downtown San Rafael for construction. These weekend street closures will impact bus operations at the San Rafael Transit Center, including Golden Gate Transit, Marin Transit, Greyhound, and airporter services. 

SECOND STREET CLOSURE - between Tamalpais Avenue and Hetherton Street

Dates/Times: Friday, May 31, at 8:00 p.m. through Monday, June 3, at 4:00 a.m.

Impacts to Bus Operations: Beginning at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, buses will serve Transit Center platforms as follows (also, see map attached): 

  • Platform A, east side:
    • Golden Gate Transit: Route 30 (southbound), Route 31, Route 70 (southbound), Route 101 (southbound)
    • Marin Transit: Route 17, Route 36 (southbound), Route 228
  • Platform A, west side:
    • Golden Gate Transit: Route 30 (northbound)
    • Marin Transit: Route 22, Route 23 (westbound)
  • Platform B, east side:
    • Golden Gate Transit: Route 70 (northbound), Route 101 (northbound)
    • Marin Transit: Route 35 (northbound), Route 49, Route 245
  • Platform B, west side:
    • Golden Gate Transit: Route 40
  • Platform C, east side:
    • Marin Transit: Route 23 (eastbound), Route 35 (southbound), Route 36 (northbound), Route 68, Route 233
  • Platform D, east side: Greyhound, Marin Airporter, Sonoma County Airport Express

Notes: 

  • SMART ambassadors will be onsite to assist riders. 
  • The Second Street sidewalk between Tamalpais Avenue and Hetherton Street will also be closed. Pedestrians and bus riders should use caution and use marked crosswalks.
  • All buses operate first-in, first-out and pull as far forward as possible as they enter all platforms.

THIRD STREET CLOSURE - between Tamalpais Avenue and Hetherton Street

Dates/Times: Friday, June 7, at 8:00 p.m. through Monday, June 10, at 4:00 a.m. 

Impacts to Bus Operations: Beginning at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, buses will serve Transit Center platforms and Tamalpais Avenue and Hetherton Street as follows (also, see map attached):

  • Platform A, east side:
    • Golden Gate Transit: Route 30 (northbound & southbound), Route 70 (southbound), Route 101 (southbound)
    • Marin Transit: Route 17, Route 36 (southbound), Route 228
  • Platform B, east side:
    • Golden Gate Transit: Route 70 (northbound), Route 101 (northbound)
    • Marin Transit: Route 23 (westbound), Route 35 (northbound & southbound), Route 36 (northbound), Route 49
  • Platform C, east side:
    • Marin Transit: Route 233, Route 245
  • Tamalpais Avenue, east side between Second and Third streets:
    • Marin Transit: Route 22, Route 23 (eastbound), Route 68
  • Hetherton Street, west side between Third and Fourth streets:
    • Golden Gate Transit: Route 31, Route 40
    • Greyhound, Marin Airporter, SMART, Sonoma County Airport Express

Notes:

  • SMART's San Rafael Station will also be closed during the Third Street closure. SMART will provide a bus to shuttle passengers between SMART's Marin Civic Center Station, the San Rafael Transit Center, and the Larkspur Ferry Terminal (visit www.sonomamarintrain.org for details). Golden Gate Transit's Route 31 will operate as scheduled between the Transit Center and Larkspur Ferry.  
  • SMART ambassadors will be at the Civic Center Station, the Transit Center, and the Larkspur Ferry Terminal to assist riders. 
  • Third Street sidewalks between Tamalpais Avenue and Hetherton Street will also be closed. Pedestrians and bus riders should use caution and use marked crosswalks.
