We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of the rooftop solar installation on the GWP Perkins Building—marking the first major achievement under Phase 1 of the Community Solar: City-Owned Projects initiative. This project represents a pivotal step in Glendale Water & Power’s (GWP) continued commitment to expanding our clean energy portfolio and building a more sustainable future.
On April 14, 2025, we commemorated this exciting milestone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside the Glendale City Council. The event was livestreamed on GWP’s Instagram and Facebook pages, with additional photos and videos to be shared across the City’s and GWP’s social media platforms in the coming days.
A heartfelt thank you to our incredible teams from Public Works, Community Development, Information Technology, Management Services, the City Attorney’s Office, Finance, and of course, GWP. Your collaboration, dedication, and hard work brought this project to life and laid the foundation for the success of the entire initiative.
This installation will generate approximately 184 kW of clean solar energy—enough to power around 41 homes annually. By leveraging city-owned properties, we are not only reducing our dependence on external energy sources but also making renewable energy more affordable and accessible for the Glendale community.
This is only the beginning. With five more city-owned solar projects underway in Phase 1 and future phases on the horizon, we’re making steady progress toward a carbon-free, sustainable energy future for all.
Together, we’re powering Glendale forward—one rooftop at a time.

Every April 18th, we pause to recognize the hardworking men and women who keep our communities connected—rain or shine, day or night. National Lineman Appreciation Day is our chance to celebrate the vital role these dedicated professionals play in maintaining and restoring our power systems.
Lineman work is challenging, often dangerous, and always essential. Whether responding to storm outages or maintaining the lines that power our homes and businesses, linemen put service above self to ensure we have the energy we need every day.
On this special day, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all linemen for their skill, sacrifice, and service. Your work powers our lives, and we’re proud to stand behind you.
Thank you, linemen—today and every day.
GWP is enhancing its water infrastructure through the Chilton/Kenneth Phase I Pipeline Replacement Project. As part of our commitment to reliable service, we are proactively replacing aging pipelines to improve water delivery, reduce water loss, and minimize pipeline breaks in the area.
This project will focus on replacing critical, deteriorated, and undersized water mains with new, larger ductile-iron pipes. These upgrades will not only strengthen our system but also improve water circulation, increase operational flexibility, and help maintain high water quality throughout the distribution network.
Construction will take place at various locations across the City of Glendale, including streets such as Chilton, Watson, Rangeview, Hampton, Irving, Thompson, Raymond, Alameda, Glenwood, and Idlewood.
