LIHEAP Application Assistance Event

For Unpaid Electric and/or Gas Bills - May 9

In partnership with PACE, we will be hosting an event on Thursday, May 9, 2024, from 9:00AM to 2:00PM to provide application assistance to aid in payment of any unpaid electric and/or gas bills. PACE staff will be present to assess eligibility, help residents complete and submit applications, and address any inquiries regarding this federally funded grant. This is the second application assistance event that we have held this year. This is a walk-in event, and no appointments are needed to attend. What is LIHEAP? The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) can offer income-eligible residents a once-a-year payment credit of up to $3,000 on their electric or gas bill. What to Bring to the Event: • Government issued photo ID • Proof of gross income for all household members from the past 30 days, or proof of current participation in CalFresh or CalWORKs • Current electric and gas bill with meter readings Event Location & Parking: Glendale Water & Power  141 N. Glendale Ave, 1st Floor, Perking Community Room 118   Glendale, CA 91206 Parking is available in the Glendale Civic Center parking structure (entrance is on Wilson Ave.) There will be signs directing you to the event from the parking structure. If you cannot make it to the event you can download the application online and mail it to PACE.

Water Conservation Tips

Water Saving Tips Indoors - Reducing the amount of water you use inside your home is as easy as turning off the faucet. Here are some simple tips that will help you save water every day. • High-efficiency toilets can save up to 12,000 gallons per year • Shorter showers can save 2.5 gallons per minute or more • Turning off water when brushing teeth can save up to 2.5 gallons per minute • Faucet aerators save 1.5 gallons per minute purchase the from out marketplace • Full load of dishes save 2 – 4.5 gallons per load • High-efficiency clothes washers can save up to 11,000 gallons per year • Fixing household leaks promptly can save 25 gallons per day Water Saving Tips Outside - Up to 60% of your annual water use is outside your home. Landscaping with California Friendly® and native plants and following these simple tips will help you save water. • Soil moisture sensors save about 13,000 gallons per year • High-efficiency sprinkler nozzles save about 850 gallons per year • Weather-based irrigation controllers save 13,000 gallons per year • Rain barrels save about 50 gallons per large rain storm • Turf Removal saves about 34 gallons per year per square foot • Check your sprinkler system for leaks, overspray and broken sprinkler heads. Proper maintenance can save about 500 gallons per month • Using a broom instead of a hose to clean driveways and sidewalks could save up to 100 gallons each time. • Put a layer of mulch around trees and plants. Two inches of mulch will help hold the moisture in the ground and cool the root systems. Leave a six inch space between mulch and plant. • Set your lawn mower blades higher. Set a blade heights at 2 or 3 inches. Longer grass blades will reduce evaporation and shade the roots. • Step on your grass and see if it springs back when you lift your foot. If the grass springs back, no need to water today.

Rain Barrel Distribution Event - May 18

Glendale Water and Power in partnership with Foothill MWD and other local agencies is hosting a rain barrel distribution event on Saturday, May 18th, 2024, 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM. Customers should pre-order a rain barrel, and then plan to pick it up at the event from Foothill MWD at 4536 Hampton Rd, La Canada Flintridge, CA 91011. 

The price of each rain barrel is $65. Residents get a $35 rebate per barrel. The maximum quantity is 2 rain barrel rebates per household. Click the button below to pre-order your rain barrel today! 

Tree Power Program

Shade trees are a great way to cool your home, reduce the use of your air-conditioning system, and help the environment. GWP’s Tree Power Program offers residential customers up to three free shade trees to plant on their property. Customers can choose from 30 different varieties.

Schedule an appointment with our program arborist to choose your trees and schedule delivery. Our arborist will work with you to help you find the best location to plant your trees to provide shade to cool your home.

"Being Water Wise Is..." Student Art Contest

Using the theme "Being Water Wise is...," Glendale students in grades K-12th are invited to create an art poster depicting various ways to use water more efficiently. 

The first place winner will receive an iPad mini, second place winner will receive a $50 Barnes & Noble Gift Card, and the third place winner will receive a $25 Barnes & Noble Gift Card for their talents.

In addition, a total of 15 entries will be selected by GWP to compete in the regional art contest hosted by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California for consideration to be featured in their annual Water is Life calendar.

Deadline to submit artwork is on June 3, 2024.

May 2nd is Tap Water Day!

Tap Water Day honors one of our most precious resources: drinking water and the public drinking water fountain. On Tap Water Day, say goodbye to plastic water bottles. Join us in pledging to refill your reusable bottle with great-tasting drinking water at a drinking fountain or filling station in your community. Read our annual water quality report to learn more about our commitment to protecting and ensuring the quality of your drinking water.

Two Additional Meetings on Solar & Energy Storage

We are developing an equitable solar and energy storage adoption plan. The goal of this solar and energy storage plan is to maximize the City of Glendale’s use of renewable energy to serve Glendale residents and businesses, as well as assess the feasibility of achieving the City Council’s target of 10% of our customers adopting solar and energy storage systems by December 31, 2027.

As part of our solar and energy storage plan, we engaged in comprehensive community outreach, to hear directly from customers as to what they would like to see implemented. We hosted 3 community meetings in February and March, taking input and feedback directly from our customers. Additionally, we distributed an online survey to extend the opportunity for customers to have their voices heard. Once the draft plan is complete, two additional community meetings will be hosted to present quantitative analytics where possible, share our progress on the preliminary plan, and listen to your input and feedback once again.

Elevate Your Home's Efficiency with Our Home Upgrade Program

Our Home Energy and Water Upgrade program helps residential customers save energy and water through a home survey and the installation of energy and water saving devices. A certified GWP contractor specializing in energy efficiency will visit the homes of residents and conduct an energy survey of the home to identify potential energy and water efficiency upgrades.

We made it very easy for you. Our Water Wise Gardening website is the inspiration you need to replace turf with water efficient and CA Friendly plants. The website features over 300 pictures of local homes that have transformed their landscapes into beautiful water efficient and CA Friendly landscapes.

The website is very interactive, in each picture you can hover your mouse over the plants and learn about the plant, and see if it is the right one for your landscape. You can also create a list of plants to take directly to a nursery.
