GWP's New Peak Savings Program!
Let us help you save energy and money with our new Peak Savings program.
How it works for Residents:
On days when demand on the electric grid is extremely high, the Peak Savings program uses your smart thermostat to automatically manage your energy use. While the program only adjusts the temperature by 3 degrees or less, it makes a big difference in reducing demand and keeping costs low. Most people don’t notice a difference.
Enrolled residential customers will receive a $50 incentive for signing up and will also receive $50 each year on their enrollment anniversary. Customers that don’t have a smart thermostat can receive a $100 instant rebate on the purchase price of a new thermostat, and will also receive $50 each year on their enrollment anniversary.
How it works for Businesses:
GWP will provide a free facility walkthrough, outline ways that your facility can reduce energy during peak demand periods (called events), and provide you with an energy reduction plan for events. You will be notified the day prior to a peak event, and you implement the energy reduction plan the day of the event during the specified times.
Business customers can receive up to $250 per event for implementing their energy reduction plan. Up to 15 peak events can be called each year, so the savings can really add up!

Tips for Saving Water During Summer Months
Despite critically dry conditions across the state, Southern California can count on a reliable water supply thanks to residents’ enduring conservation efforts and the Metropolitan Water District’s investments in storage and diverse supplies. Let’s continue to make water use efficiency a way of life in California! We appreciate Glendale residents conserving water, and urge you to keep changing habits that lead to more conservation.
Properly watering your landscape is one of the easiest ways you can save water. Do a weekly check on your sprinklers, to see if they are watering the landscape and not the sidewalk, walkways or streets. Many times sprinkler heads are moved, or the direction of the spray is altered due to water pressure changes or lawnmowers. A simple check each week will help solve this common problem and will save you over 500 gallons a month! Below are additional tips to keep in mind during summer months.
- Don't let the water run when washing fruits or vegetables. Put them in the sink or in a bowl and fill it up with water. Use that water for watering plants.
- Sign-up for GWP’s WaterInsight program and you will have access to your near real time water usage information, and you will be alerted if there is a possible water leak in your home. Click here to sign up.
- Don't leave the hose running while washing your car. Use a nozzle with an automatic shut off, a sponge, and bucket of soapy water.
- Put a layer of mulch around trees and plants. Two inches of mulch will help hold the moisture in the ground and cool the root systems. Leave a six-inch space between mulch and plants. Water during the cooler part of the day. Ideal times are before 9:00 a.m. and after 6:00 p.m. Less evaporation occurs in the cooler evening and early morning hours.
- Check your toilet for leaks. Put a few drops of food coloring into the tank and wait 30 minutes. If the food coloring seeps into the bowl, you have a leak.
- GWP’s Laundry to Landscape Greywater System program offers a rebate of up to $500 for residential customers who install a Laundry to Landscape greywater system that does not require a City permit. Click here for more info.

Laundry to Landscape Greywater System Rebate Program
Our Laundry to Landscape (L2L) Greywater System Program offers a rebate of up to $500 (not to exceed the total cost of installation) to residential customers for properly connecting their washing machine to a greywater irrigation system. These systems are designed to reuse the water from a washing machine to irrigate plants.
To qualify for the program, the rebate application must be submitted no more than twelve months from the date of the greywater system installation. GWP customers must also provide a copy of the receipt or invoice for the system, photograph of the installed greywater system, and a copy of labor receipt with the rebate application. No permits are required for greywater systems as long as the installer follows the minimum requirements outlined in the application.

Trimming Trees For Safety
Trees, shrubs and other vegetation can cause safety hazards such as fires, wildfires and power outages if they grow into or near power lines. In support of safety, we regularly trim trees away from power lines and cut dead, dying or diseased trees to the stump. We strive to provide safe, reliable electric service to our customers, while making a sincere effort to minimize the risk to the health of trees and shrubs. We are increasing our vegetation management efforts and taking all the necessary steps to maintain an efficient electric line-clearing plan that mitigates any and all potential fires and wildfire risks. Our safety crews regularly monitor and inspect trees that are growing near power lines. If we see potential hazards we work with the homeowner to schedule tree-trimming services. GWP is contracted with certified line clearance tree trimmers. If you see a tree growing too close to power lines, or a tree that is a potential fire hazard growing near power lines please call us at (818) 548-2011 or visit www.Glendaleca.gov/tree-trimming for more information.
Fire Mitigation
The safety of our community is our top priority. To reduce the risk of wildfire and improve safety, we're working to enhance wildfire prevention efforts, put new and improved safety measures in place and make our electric system more resilient. We are currently updating our current Wildfire Mitigation Plan and more information can be found on our Wildfire Mitigation website at www.glendaleca.gov/wildfiremitigation
Here’s how we ensure to improve safety and reduce the risk of wildfires:
Line inspections We regularly perform a range of inspections on our transmission and distribution facilities, on power lines and power poles and substations.
Vegetation management Our vegetation management crews have been busy inspecting, identifying, maintaining and clearing trees under or near power poles and power lines that pose threats to public safety and to GWP’s power system reliability.
Turning Off Power during Red Flag Warnings Safety is our number one priority. If extreme conditions, like high risk of fires threaten our electrical system, we may as a last resort, temporarily turn off power to protect public safety. The decision to turn off power requires the balancing of several factors, including, but not limited to:
- Circumstances of the emergency
- Wind speed
- Temperature
- Humidity
- Field observations by GWP and Fire Crews
While our risk of wildfires is low within Glendale, a public safety power outage could impact any of our customers due to the interconnected nature of the electric grid. If we must shut off power, rotating outages could occur. We would use every tool at our disposal before we would call for a shut off and would notify impacted customers by all means possible. If a shutoff is necessary, we will communicate with customers and key stakeholders, including government agencies and critical service providers to give as much notice as possible, and minimize the impact on our customers and community. Up to date information will be provided on our homepage and on our social media platforms.
