It will be “Hollywood comes to Fullerton” in October when the Fullerton Public Library hosts a special film series of movies that were shot, in part, in Fullerton and other Orange County communities.
The film series is being offered by the Library in conjunction with its annual month-long “Fullerton Reads” program.
The “Fullerton Reads” program, previously known as “One Book, One Community,” was developed by the American Library Association as a means of fostering civic unity through everyone reading the same book.
The theme for this year’s observance is “All history is local,” and the book selected as the focus of the program is “Orange County: A Personal History” by Gustavo Arellano, managing editor of the “Orange County Weekly” and author of the newspaper column “Ask a Mexican.”
All the movies will be shown at 6:30 p.m. on Mondays, and admission is free.
The movies scheduled are:
Oct. 3 – “Send Me No Flowers,” portions of which were filmed in 1964 at the Fullerton Train Station; the comedy film stars Doris Day and Rick Hudson.
Oct. 10 – “Evolution,” portions of which were filmed in 2001 on the campus of California State University, Fullerton; the science fiction comedy stars David Duchovny and Julianne Moore.
Oct. 17 – “Purple People Eater,” scenes from which were filmed in 1988 at an apartment complex in downtown Fullerton; the comedy stars Oscar winner Shelley Winters, Ned Beatty, and a very young Neil Patrick Harris.
Oct. 24 – “Matchstick Men,” portions of which were filmed in 2003 at the Anaheim Convention Center; the drama stars Nicolas Cage and Sam Rockwell.
Oct. 31 – “Poltergeist“ scenes from which were filmed in 1982 in Irvine and on the UCI campus; the classic thriller stars Craig T. Nelson, JoBeth Williams and Heather O’Rourke.
The Fullerton Main Library is located at 353 W. Commonwealth Ave., adjacent to Fullerton City Hall.
Further information about the film series or “Fullerton Reads” or the other activities planned may be obtained by calling the Fullerton Main Library at (714) 738-6326.
Persons requiring special accommodations to attend the film showings are asked to notify the library staff prior to date of the film they wish to attend. ### |
