Novo Nordisk, a global leader in pharmaceutical manufacturing, is experiencing rapid growth driven by high demand for its weight loss medicines Ozempic and Wegovy. As part of its expansion, the company is significantly increasing its presence in Fremont’s Ardenwood area. This investment will significantly expand Novo Nordisk’s Fremont footprint to support increased production capacity and innovation in metabolic and chronic disease treatments. We’re grateful for Novo’s belief in Fremont and their growing presence here.
Nextracker, a leading cleantech innovator headquartered in Fremont, is also expanding its foothold in the City’s Ardenwood Technology Park, with a new lease at 34325 Ardenwood—its 3rd facility in the area. This strategic move strengthens Fremont’s role as a hub for sustainable technology and innovation. In addition, Nextracker was recently awarded a $4.3 million California Competes grant, supporting its continued investment in local growth and job creation. Recently, Nextracker announced a project in Greece that will supply nearly 2% of the entire country’s power. Congratulations to Nextracker—we’re proud to support their success and thrilled to see their increasing global impact.
The 880 Technology Center is now fully leased just months after its completion! Home to leading AI and EV companies, the 400,000 square foot campus reinforces Fremont's position as a hub for advanced manufacturing and technology. Strategic land use changes by City Council and strong partnerships helped make this next-generation employment center possible.
This August, Fremont begins its transition to 100% renewable energy for residential customers, meaning the energy will be sourced from clean sources like wind and solar. The City and Ava Community Energy (Ava), our city’s electricity provider, will designate Ava’s Renewable 100 plan as the default electricity service plan for residents. Most residents will be transitioned to Renewable 100, unless they choose a different plan. Commercial customers will not transition until August 2026.
Ava is a not-for-profit public agency that provides electricity generation service for Alameda County and parts of San Joaquin County. While PG&E still handles the delivery of electricity to homes and businesses—including maintaining the electric grid, handling billing, and resolving outages—Ava is responsible for sourcing and supplying the electricity that PG&E delivers.
The transition to Ava’s Renewable 100 service plan is outlined in Fremont’s Climate Action Plan, as it will provide cleaner energy to residents and businesses and achieve the high-priority goal of reducing community-wide greenhouse gas emissions.
When the commercial transition approaches next year, businesses will receive detailed communications from Ava and the City about their options, which include the same service plan choices that businesses have now.
For businesses who have questions now, Ava’s customer support team is available at 833-699-3223 (weekdays 9 AM to 5 PM.
