Warm Up with November’s News: Economic Development Updates & Opportunities!
Here’s the TL;DR of this month's issue:
The 13th Annual Fremont Manufacturing Week was a resounding success, underscoring the City’s position as a leading innovation hub and its role as California’s bellwether for advanced manufacturing. Fourteen leading companies opened their doors to over 500 students ranging elementary school to graduate level engineering. This City-led initiative, sponsored by the California Manufacturers & Technology Association and in partnership with Fremont Unified School District, Mission Valley ROP, Ohlone College, San Jose State University, and CSU East Bay, aims to bridge the gap between local education and industry. Students had the opportunity to explore career pathways in modern manufacturing and engineering, strengthening the local talent pipeline.
The collaborative effort highlights the City’s commitment to keeping our economy strong and growing high-paying jobs through inspiring the next generation of our workforce. Special thanks to our hosting companies: AMAX, Bionova Scientific, Bloom Energy, Boehringer Ingelheim, Delta Electronics, Lam Research, Nextracker, Owens Design, Quanta Computer, Seagate, Hyundai Supernal, Tesla, ThermoFisher, and Wisk Aero.
As Thanksgiving approaches each year, we are inundated with a flood of advertisements that extend through the holiday season. Black Friday has become a cultural phenomenon as the biggest shopping day of the year, while Cyber Monday continues to attract more attention online.
However, between these two days of frantic shopping is an important occasion that should not be overlooked: Small Business Saturday. In Fremont, small businesses are essential to our cultural identity, helping to cultivate a sense of belonging and community. By choosing to shop at these local establishments, you keep your money within the community, supporting a more sustainable and circular economy.

The East Bay Manufacturing Summit on October 29 hosted by the East Bay Economic Development Alliance brought together several hundred manufacturing representatives, community leaders, and industry partners for a day of insightful discussions at Fremont’s Downtown Event Center. Attendees learned about innovations in manufacturing digitalization, workforce development models, and new opportunities for “onshoring” domestic manufacturing. In addition to panel discussions, an exhibitors' area showcased local manufacturers and industry associations. This event helped build stronger connections to support a more resilient and inclusive manufacturing ecosystem. Thank you to everyone who participated!
HYC Technology is a leading manufacturer of high-performance equipment for various industries, specializing in flexible printed devices (FPDs). Their offerings include display, touch, signal, optics, and reliability drive solutions for LCD/OLED and next-generation micro displays like Micro OLED and Mini LED. The proximity to key customers and Fremont’s reputation as the place where companies go to build hardware in Silicon Valley led HYC to locate its USA headquarters in Fremont’s Pacific Commons South industrial campus.
HYC plans to grow its Fremont manufacturing and R&D footprint over time, building upon customer relationships with nearby companies and a favorable local business environment.

Families enjoyed a fun-filled night of trick-or-treating and carnival games in a safe, indoor setting. Pre-sale tickets sold out quickly, but attendees made the most of the additional activities offered throughout the evening. Children, ages 2-10, had a spook-tacular time collecting treats and playing games, all while dressed in their Halloween costumes! The local Downtown businesses also participated by handing out candy that evening to guests. Thank you to everyone who joined the City of Fremont and the Fremont Chamber of Commerce for this memorable event.
The 2024 Olive Festival was a fantastic weekend!
