City of Fontana Closes Lobbies to Public But Remains Open for Business

Closed

Fontana, Calif.- The City Hall lobby, Police Department lobby, Development Services Organization (DSO) lobby, Human Resources lobby, Community Services Office, and the Public Works lobby have been closed to the public through May 1, 2020 or until further notice. Staff will be on-site during normal business hours to carry out essential duties. 

City Hall

City Hall will transition to online services; residents and businesses are encouraged to call the main line at (909) 350-7600 or visit fontana.org to view the services available online.

Police Department

While the lobby of Fontana Police Department is closed, the phone outside of the door is operational and can be used to access police services. The City encourages everyone to call (909) 350-7700 for non-emergency police assistance and 911 for emergency assistance.

The Police Department has dedicated extra resources to take police reports over the phone so that the public does not need to leave the safety and comfort of their homes. 

Development Services Organization (DSO)

All services requiring in-person visits or public service assistance will be made available via phone, online, or through email. For permit and application submissions, please call (909) 350-7640 to make an appointment. Residential inspections are subject to a case-by-case basis. Building and Safety, Planning and Engineering divisions will accept plans and applications electronically. The divisions can be reached directly at:

Human Resources

All applicant inquiries can be made at HR@fontana.org or (909) 350-7650.

Community Services

  • City Parks will remain accessible to the public, and their maintenance and upkeep will continue with additional cleaning services
  • All community and neighborhood centers are closed through May 1, 2020. As a result, all recreational programs, activities, classes and sports fields rentals have been canceled until further notice.

Although the Fontana Community Senior Center will be closed, senior transportation services will remain operational, though limited to 10 passengers per vehicle. The City is in the process of implementing a home-bound meals program for seniors already registered in the program.City parks will remain open with additional cleaning services. 

Public Works

The City of Fontana Household Hazardous Waste facility will be closed until Monday, April 6, 2020.

City Meetings

  • City meetings will move forward as scheduled, following the CDC guidelines for social distancing. Those unable to attend can submit their public comments to publiccomments@fontana.org before the meeting. As a reminder, all meetings are live-streamed at fontana.org. We have implemented these preventive measures to ensure that we limit the exposure of the virus.  We are continuously monitoring the recommendations coming from the Centers for Disease Control and our federal, state, and local partners and will adjust our response as needed.

Below is information about the library, school closures, local gyms, store hours, and water safety to keep in mind.

Fontana Lewis Library

The Fontana Lewis Library & Technology Center, along with several San Bernardino County libraries and attractions, will be closed effective immediately until Friday, April 3.

School District Closures

  • Fontana Unified School District has closed schools until May 1, 2020, with a possible extension
  • Etiwanda School District has closed schools, offices, and childcare until May 1, 2020
  • Chaffey Joint Union High School District has closed schools until May 1, 2020

Gym Closures

  • 24 Hour Fitness: Until Further Notice
  • LA Fitness: Monday, March 16 until Wednesday, April 1 at 5:00 a.m.
  • Planet Fitness: Tuesday, March 17 until Tuesday, March 31

Store market hours

Local market and grocery store times may be changing to ensure that employees have time to restock shelves, sanitize, and clean facilities. We will keep updating this list as we receive more information. Please be kind to each other and to store employees during this time.

Several stores are offering priority hours for vulnerable guests, including the elderly and those with underlying health concerns. They are: 

  • Superior Grocers: 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. to begin Wednesday, March 18
  • Stater Bros: 7:45 a.m. to begin Wednesday, March 18
  • Target: 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. every Wednesday
