City Associate Planner Loves Doing all the Heavy Lifting to Bring Quality Development to Fontana

Rina Leung

Fontana, Calif.- Associate Planner Rina Leung is the friendly face behind many of Fontana's development projects. She strives to ensure that new developments are well-designed and will benefit Fontana residents. Rina has assisted with various projects, including the environmental clearance for the Beech Avenue Extension Project, Pacific Industrial Warehouse II project on Sierra Avenue and South Fontana Sports Park.

Rina has worked for the City of Fontana's Community Development Department for five years. In her current position, her main duties include reviewing development applications and preparing them for public hearings for City Council and the Planning Commission.

Rina was attracted to Fontana, because of the opportunity to work for a progressive and dynamic city that brought in large-scale developments. “I stay in Fontana because of the ability to gain further experience working on complex projects and Environmental Impact Reports (EIRs) involving litigation,” she explains.

On a typical workday, Rina can be found answering planning and development inquiries from the public, guiding developers to entitle and permit development projects, and assisting various departments with clearances for their projects. Rina’s favorite part of the job is working with others to continuously provide a high quality of life for residents, while simultaneously doing what she loves most: write.

Coworkers describe Rina as always helpful, positive, and friendly. "Among the five cities that I have worked or volunteered at she is definitely one of the most helpful planners that I have ever encountered," shares a coworker.

"Her positivity and commitment to helping residents and applicants clearly soars above and it should be noted. Her excellent customer service can be seen at the counter and over the phone," another coworker states.

Rina’s advice to new employees is to “always be dynamic, opened minded, creative, and innovated to be able to search for solutions for problems that we are presented daily.”

Her coworkers would be surprised to know that she loves to do labor intensive and hard work, because it reminds her of the sacrifices and jobs that others have made when coming to the U.S. in search of the American Dream. In her free time, Rina can be found at the gym lifting weights or found in her backyard doing yard work.

Please join us in congratulating the last employee spotlight recipient for 2019, Rina Leung, for helping to make the City of Fontana a better place through new developments for all to enjoy.
