City Council Adopted the New General Plan

General Plan Update Public Comment Period

Fontana, Calif.-  In a 4-1 vote Tuesday night, the Fontana City Council approved the new General Plan concluding the three-year information gathering and community outreach process. Councilmember Jesse Sandoval cast the dissenting vote.

"I can't thank our great staff enough, citizens and all the people that took out time to participate in the process," stated Mayor Acquanetta Warren. "This is how you map out your community, this is where the vision begins. Now we have the plan; all we have to do now is walk the step and implement."

The newly adopted General Plan is considered the City of Fontana's blueprint for its growth and development over the next 20 years.

Two notable elements new to the plan include the addition of a Downtown Area Plan and a Walkable Mixed-Use Land-Use category.

The process kicked off in 2015 and included the creation of a 25-member General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC) comprised of community members interested in helping to shape the future of Fontana's growth.  Members of the GPAC along with other residents and city staff dedicated countless hours to produce the plan for Fontana.

"We can now mold this community to when we are no longer here, our children have something to look forward to," shared Mayor Warren."We just said what our community is going to look like in 20 years. This is major."
