City of Fontana Re-names the Parks and Community Services Commission to Clarify Scope of Programs and Services

Fontana, Calif.- The Fontana City Council approved an ordinance to rename the "Parks and Community Services Commission" to the "Parks, Community and Human Services Commission" at the September 11, 2018 meeting. The name change seeks to provide a title that more closely reflects the roles, responsibilities and oversight of the current Commission.

"Modifying the title to include Human Services allows the city to apply for grants and develop multi-agency collaborations and public/private partnerships to better serve our community," states Community Services Manager Daniel Schneider.

The ordinance also seeks to clarify the mission and duties of the Parks, Community and Human Services Commission to better represent areas of oversight such as nutrition programs, transportation programs, and resource referral services such as senior support services, legal services, health screening, youth and family support services.

The mission of the Commission is to foster positive relations and understanding between the Community Services Department, the Public Works Department and all community members.

The Parks, Community and Human Services Commission consists of seven members appointed by City Council. One of the seven members is designated to represent the interests of the City's Senior Citizen residents.

The ordinance will be presented for a second reading at the September 25, 2018 Council Meeting for final adoption.
