Ultima Andrews: Keeping Homes Safe One Inspection at a Time

Ultima Andrews

Fontana, Calif.- If you have ever needed a building permit, you may have already met Ultima Andrews at the Building and Safety Service Counter located in Fontana City Hall. However, with a recent promotion to Building Inspector, she's now coming to you. Making history as the City of Fontana's first-ever female Building Inspector, Ultima spends her workdays visiting Fontana residents with the mission of keeping families safe in their homes.

Ultima inspects residential construction and remodeling projects to make sure home improvements are up-to-code with California Building Codes and ordinances. Inspection items include patio covers, room additions, home remodels, block walls and furnaces. When it comes to the best part of her job, Ultima doesn't hesitate: "I enjoy the interaction between the community members and myself. Every day I get to meet new people."

As a native to Fontana, Ultima wanted to work for an organization that would allow her to make a difference within her community. In 2006, she took on the role of Administrative Clerk in the Building and Safety Department. Her journey with the City led her to work for the Engineering Department, Development Services Organization, Community Services Department and then back to the Building and Safety Department.

With her 12 years at the City, she is most proud of her promotion to Building Inspector. "I did not go to school for the position, so I read the California Residential Building Code several times and obtained my Building Inspector Certification. I was very proud to have been offered the job," states Ultima. She proves that hard work does pay off.

Outside of work, Ultima can be found at the Happiest Place on Earth, Disneyland, with her three children Elijah, Zayda and Kori.

If you are planning a residential construction or remodeling project and need an inspection, please contact Ultima Andrews at (909) 350-7644 or by email. For more information about the City of Fontana's Building and Safety Division, visit www.fontana.org.
