Sidewalk Improvements at the Sierra and Juniper Avenue Metrolink Crossings

Metrolink Crossing Sidewalk Improvements

Fontana, Calif.- Expect intermittent lane closures near the Metrolink crossings at Sierra Avenue and Juniper Avenue in Fontana starting the week of October 16, 2017 through December 2017 for sidewalk improvements. Crews will prepare to install sidewalks, curbs and gutters at the crossings to improve the area for pedestrians. The work will take place during the day.

Crews will begin the curb removal on the east side of Sierra the week of October 16, 2017 to prepare for the installation of sidewalks next week. On the west side of Juniper, concrete will be placed later this week. Crews are anticipating to install concrete for the sidewalks on the east side of Juniper and west side of Sierra the second and third week of December.

The City of Fontana was awarded two $750,000 grants from the Transportation Development Act for the Metrolink At-Grade Crossing Pedestrian Improvement Project. The project will create a sidewalk, curb and gutter at the crossings, widen Sierra Avenue, and install pedestrian crossing gates, swing gates and bike lane signage. The work beginning the week of October 16th will focus on installing the sidewalks, curbs and gutters. The sidewalk improvement phase of the project is expected to be complete at the end of 2017.

"This project will improve pedestrian access to our downtown area, especially to our Senior Housing and Senior Community in the immediate vicinity," stated City of Fontana Engineer Noel Castillo. "We appreciate your patience as we work to make these improvements."
