Sierra and Juniper Avenue Metrolink Crossing Closures Friday, August 11- Monday, August 14

Sierra and Juniper Detour

Fontana, Calif.- The Metrolink crossings at Sierra Avenue and Juniper Avenue will close Friday, August 11 at 9:00 p.m. and reopen Monday, August 14 at 5:00 a.m. due to railroad track and signal construction.

Expect detours at Sierra Avenue and Juniper Avenue between Orange Way and Ceres Avenue. The City of Fontana encourages drivers to use Citrus Avenue and Mango Avenue via East Foothill Boulevard and Merrill Avenue as a detour during the weekend closure.

Scheduled train services for the San Bernardino Line on Saturday, August 12 will follow the normal Sunday service schedule. Metrolink will provide bus services to transport riders between the Rancho Cucamonga Station and the San Bernardino Station on both Saturday and Sunday. During construction, drivers can access the Metrolink parking lot via Orange Way.

"This project is a concerted effort to improve access to our downtown area and to improve access for our residents, especially the Senior Housing and Senior Community in the immediate vicinity," stated City of Fontana Engineer Noel Castillo. "We appreciate your patience as we work to make these improvements."

The City of Fontana was awarded two $750,000 grants from the Transportation Development Act for the Metrolink At-Grade Crossing Pedestrian Improvement Project. The project will create a sidewalk, curb and gutter at the crossings, widen Sierra Avenue, and install pedestrian crossing gates, swing gates and bike lane signage. The August 11-14 weekend closures focus on the removal of existing track and signal crossing systems and installations of new track and signal crossing systems. The project will continue to have intermittent lane closures until its completion in Spring of 2018.
