Fontana City Council Selects District Map

District Map 6

Fontana, Calif.- The Fontana City Council has selected a final draft district boundary map to be used in future district-based elections. The council voted 3-2 to select map 6 drafted by its consultant, National Demographics Corporation after holding its fourth public hearing during the regularly scheduled City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 25, 2017. The map selected is legally compliant with the elections code and consistent with the City Council adopted criteria for creating election districts.

The Fontana City Council will consider an ordinance establishing map 6 and election sequencing at its August 22, 2017 meeting . If adopted, districts 1 and 4 would be on the ballot in November 2018 and districts 2 and 3 on the ballot in November 2020. This means that starting in November 2018, individuals that reside in districts 1 and 4 would only be able to vote for one city council seat to represent their district, in contrast to the at-large system that allowed voters to vote for all seats up for election. The mayor will continue to be elected at-large.
