El Segundo Joins Forces with Silicon Valley Startup Community to Bring Venture Capital Elites to the South Bay
To amplify momentum of the entrepreneurial energy in El Segundo, the city hosted the “Rise of the Innovation Economy” Sidebar Summit in El Segundo’s Smoky Hollow district, the genesis of SpaceX and the hotbed for hyper-growth companies.
El Segundo welcomed current California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, along with former California State Treasurer John Chiang, to share their thoughts on the importance of the entrepreneurial community to the long-term health of the 4th largest economy in the world, California.
The esteemed panel included, Rick Smith, Co-Founder of Crosscut Ventures, Daphna Ziman, President of Cinemoi TV, Faraz Fatemi, Partner at Lightspeed and Ben Marcus, Co-Founder of UP Partners. The panel discussion, moderated by Mayor Drew Boyles, highlighted the uniqueness of El Segundo relative to other parts of the world, citing the vibrant startup ecosystem and significant concentration of venture capital investment.
