Founded less than three years ago by Space X alumni, El Segundo-based Varda Space Industries ushered in a revolutionary kind of science — successfully deploying the world's first space-based manufacturing satellite into orbit. Varda's in-space lab represents a unique environment for high-value substances such as pharmaceuticals to be produced in zero gravity and re-enter the Earth's atmosphere.

Chargers Future HQ & Training Facility On Track For Spring 2024 Debut
LA Chargers' remain on schedule to open their new $100M headquarters and world-class training facility in El Segundo by Spring of next year. The 150,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art campus which sits on 14 acres, just miles from SoFi Stadium where the team's home games are played, will also feature three natural-grass practice fields.
El Segundo's proximity to the Los Angeles Intl. Airport and SoFi Stadium, along with an impressive lineup of professional sports teams, including the Lakers and LA Kings, make the city an ideal location for business operations and pro athletes. Over years, El Segundo has been looked at as a major hub for professional sports teams, and the Chargers' new headquarters office complex reaffirms El Segundo's position as a nationwide gateway to game-changing innovation and championships.
"They've been great neighbors, great friends, they've participated in the process, they've reached out, they've been collaborative," said Chargers Chief of Staff Fred Maas about the nearby pro sports teams. "I couldn't ask for a better group of teams or people to be associated and be close to so it's been great. And [the city of] El Segundo, I can't say enough good things about them. They've just been terrific to work with."
