El Dorado County recently held a road dedication ceremony at El Dorado Hills Fire Station 85 to honor the late District 1 Supervisor John Hidahl and commemorate his legacy with naming the entrance to Station 85 as "John Hidahl Way". On June 24, 2025, Supervisor Turnboo brought forward BOS Agenda Item #25-1117 to name the entrance road as "John Hidahl Way" and was approved unanimously by the Board of Supervisors. John Hidahl had a great commitment to his family and his community, with decades of public service. John Hidahl would often champion the phrase "Service Before Self" and exemplified this belief with his actions and determination. Working with John Hidahl was an incredible experience with his depth of experience and intellect, but also his humble sense of humor. In attendance of the road naming event were the Hidahl Family, District 1 Supervisor Greg Ferrero, District 1 Assistant Cindy Munt, Boy Scouts of America and a number of residents from El Dorado Hills who respected and cherished John Hidahl. Special thanks to DOT Director Rafael Martinez, EDH Fire Chief Mike Lilienthal, EDC Public Liaison Carla Hass and other staff for helping to bring “John Hidahl Way” to Station 85 in El Dorado Hills. When you visit Station 85 in El Dorado Hills, make sure to remember John Hidahl so that his legacy lives on.

Supervisor Turnboo recently toured the U.S. Forest Service Placerville Tree Nursery with Forest Supervisor David Fournier and U.S. Forest Service staff, to review operations and a recent expansion project. The Placerville Tree Nursery is one of only six such nurseries across the nation. Supervisor Turnboo has been sending letters to the President, USDA and U.S. Forest Service to encourage more opportunities for logging industry, better forest management, reforestation and opportunities in the Grizzly Flats area. He has expressed support for expanding Forest Genetics and the Placerville Tree Nursery operations. The purpose of the Placerville Tree Nursery is to plant trees that beautify our forests, especially after horiffic wildfires devastate the landscape. The expansion project will increase the nursery capacity by an estimated 1.5 million trees. The U.S. Forest Service works to nuture and manage the Eldorado National Forest to ensure the health of the land, and that work includes the nursery. Many isitors are drawn to the Eldorado National Forest for adventures in our diverse forests. Four hundred miles of hiking trails pass through all kinds of terrain, from gentle oak foothills on the west to the 10,000-foot crest of the Sierra Nevada. As we respectfully use and play in these precious public lands, we are taking part in a shared vision for the future and the Placerville Tree Nursery helps turn the vision into reality.

On July 19, 2004, the Board of Supervisors adopted a new General Plan for El Dorado County. The El Dorado County General Plan is a basic planning document and is the vehicle through which El Dorado County addresses, balances and fits together the competing interests and needs of residents. The General Plan works like a “blueprint” for development throughout the county. The adoption of ordinances, resolutions and approval of other programs are focused around implementing the General Plan. The primary elements of the General Plan are Land Use, Transportation and Circulation, Housing, Public Services and Utilities, Public Health, Safety, and Noise Element. Additional parts of the General Plan include: Supporting Documents and Land Use Maps.

Community Action Council (CAC) is pleased to announce the creation of a list of Community Resources for residents of El Dorado County. The resources provided include links to non-profits, businesses and government agencies that help low-income residents and those who need assistance. The links to resources are categorized by type of resource and have a basic description of the type of organization providing assistance. Residents and charities can submit community resources to be added to the list. For more details about how to submit community resources, please review the Community Resource Submission box on the Community Resources web page. Residents are encouraged to review the Community Resources to better educate themselves about available assistance so they can get help or find ways to help others.
