Coyote Fire Response

.

Coyote Fire 2025

.

On August 20th, the Coyote Fire erupted near Coyoteville Lane and Cedar Creek Road in Somerset, CA. The rapid growth of the blaze was like the 2021 Caldor Fire. Fire crews responded immediately, including CAL-FIRE air attack vehicles that dropped fire retardant. The fire continued to grow to roughly 624 acres throughout difficult terrain. CAL-FIRE and their partners increased the number of firefighters up to 1,250 personnel from multiple agencies to contain the blaze. Currently, mop-up operations are in effect to battle remaining hot spots. The speed of response by firefighters and first responders to the Coyote Fire has been impressive. The determination of fire crews to remain fighting the fire day and night shows the level of professionalism and care that is second to none. The fire burned through an isolated area with landscape topography that made fighting the fire difficult for first responders. Supervisor George Turnboo visited the fire camp set up in Plymouth, CA, as a base of operations for the Coyote Fire, to thank the fire crews and other first responders for their hard work and dedication protecting our region. We owe a debt of gratitude to firefighters and first responders who put their life in harm’s way so we don't have to.

Ozone Event 2025

.

Supervisor Turnboo and Supervisor Ferrero attended a Nor-Cal air quality event with Air Quality Management District (AQMD) Director Rania Serieh that was held at Folsom City Hall. The event celebrated the accomplishments of governments in our region working together to provide clean breathable air. Dignitaries attended from all levels of government, including Congresswoman Doris Matsui, Congressman Tom McClintock's office and EPA Regional Administrator Josh F.W. Cook. The sentiment felt by all was that clean air is not a political issue, but as we increase government regulation to ensure clean air, we must also work to spare businesses from regulatory burdens. Our ongoing work to maintain regional clean air makes us eligible for grant funding to help transportation and infrastructure projects. The region had reduced ground-level ozone to meet 2008 standards by the 2024 deadline, which allows the region to formally request redesignation from the EPA to remove the region's severe nonattainment status. For El Dorado County, the AQMD has been awarded grant funding in the past that helped pave portions of dirt roads, which decreased considerable particulate matter in the air. AQMD continues their efforts to help keep fresh air in El Dorado County.

Resource Conservation District (RCD)

The RCD can help public or private landowners get assistance with vegetation management and tree removal at no cost to the landowner. This could be helpful for residents recovering after a wildfire. RCD is a grassroots government organization that advises and assists individual landowners and public agencies in planning and implementation of conservation practices for the protection, restoration, or development of land, water, and related natural resources. The El Dorado County Resource Conservation District and Georgetown Divide Resource Conservation District are local, independent, non-enforcement, non-regulatory, self-governed districts organized under Division 9 of the Public Resource Code. Residents and Fire Safe Councils are encouraged to reach out to RCD for assistance in creating defensible space and hazard tree removal. Call RCD at (530) 295-0120 or email connectwithrcd@gmail.com or fill out their contact form.
