Title 25 Rebuilding Update
.
.
The Title 25 program to help Caldor Fire survivors rebuild is currently underway and the first home is progressing nicely. Supervisor Turnboo recently visited Mac MacNeil and Cathie Adams to discuss and review their home rebuild. Non-profit Construction and their partners are doing a great job with the construction phase of the project. The costs of construction are covered through donations made to Non-profit Construction and volunteer laborers who want to help residents recover from the Caldor Fire. The District 2 office of Supervisor Turnboo is encouraged by the progress of the Title 25 program and is looking forward to the completion of the first home. Special thanks to Planning/Building Director Karen Garner, Pioneer Fire, Non-profit Construction and all those who donated or volunteered time to help residents rebuild using the Title 25 program.

Caldor Fire Remembered
-
Remember the Caldor Fire of 2021. The town of Grizzly Flats was decimated by the wildfire blaze that lasted 68 days, burned more than 1,000 structures over 221,000 acres across El Dorado, Alpine and Amador Counties and injured 21 individuals. To date, the Caldor Fire was the largest wildfire in El Dorado County history, and the cause of the fire is still unknown. The residents of Grizzly Flats are still recovering from the disaster with no FEMA Individual Assistance despite promises from then President Biden. Local government solutions like the Title 25 building program provide opportunities for survivors but still require donations to cover costs, as the impacted residents have few resources. Many of the residents remaining in Grizzly Flats have banded together with sparse outside assistance to help them overcome the challenges of putting their lives back together. Residents recovering from the Caldor Fire still need help.

Congressman Kiley Confronts FEMA
-
During a congressional hearing, Representative Kevin Kiley confronted FEMA leaders about providing Individual Assistance to residents in Grizzly Flats. The fight for FEMA Individual Assistance (FEMA IA) has been ongoing ever since the Caldor Fire concluded in 2021. Supervisor Turnboo worked with California representatives at all levels of government, including the Governor, both Senators and our congressman, to ensure that FEMA IA was to be provided for residents impacted by the Caldor Fire. In the end, the federal government made a strange determination that El Dorado County was ineligible for FEMA IA. The District 2 office of Supervisor George Turnboo agrees with Congressman Kevin Kiley that the excuses by FEMA were not satisfactory and FEMA IA should still be issued to residents.
