Happy Father's Day
.
.
Happy Father’s Day to all the dedicated fathers who love and care for their children. Father’s Day is the third Sunday in June each year and was first celebrated in 1908 by a West Virginia church honoring the memory of men who had died in mining accidents months prior. In 1910, a Spokane woman named Sonora Smart Dodd sought an official equivalent to Mother’s Day for male parents. Sonora Smart Dodd wanted to honor her Civil War veteran and widower father for raising her and her siblings as a single parent. In 1924, President Calvin Coolidge encouraged state governments to observe Father’s Day. In 1972, Father’s Day finally became a nationally recognized holiday. The celebration of Father’s Day is a dedication to honoring fathers who do their best to provide opportunities and care for their children. Fathers play an important role in the lives of children by being a solid foundation upon which the child can rely and bringing cherished moments and memories that the child will remember. We should all take time to reflect upon our fathers’ and recognize their sacrifice to provide for our standard of living. We encourage everyone to reach out to their father and wish them a “Happy Father’s Day”.

Historical Museum Reopens
-
The El Dorado County Historical Museum has reopened to the public. The Historical Museum started in 1974 and is supported in part, by the County of El Dorado. The Museum focuses on the rich cultural history of our region. Special exhibits about gold miners, individual rights, railroads, and more are available online. For specific research, residents can fill out a Research Request Form. The Historical Museum offers special events, museum store, railroad history and places to visit that also hold historic importance for our region.
El Dorado County has rich history dating back before the gold rush era. Over hundreds of years, our region has undergone many changes, which helped build the communities we live in today. The stories, mines, and railroad are examples of local history that have been preserved through the years. El Dorado County was one of the most populated regions in western North America at one time, and we want to preserve our historic resources for future generations to experience.
