Title 25: Rebuilding Homes

Title 25 Event

.

El Dorado County Seal

The ground-breaking Title 25 event in Grizzly Flats was a success. People joined from all over to witness the first home being built under the Title 25 program intended to help Caldor Fire survivors. Veteran Mac MacNeil and Cathie Adams have partnered with Non-profit Construction (NPC) to build their new home after years of living in RVs. The Title 25 program allows residents to build their own new homes as an Owner-Builder which can help save on costs. Additionally, the Board of Supervisors waived building fees and provided opportunities for Caldor Fire survivors to rebuild without expensive regulations. The Title 25 program represents a model for financially distressed residents’ recovery after catastrophic wildfire. In attendance of the Title 25 event were many locals, Supervisors Turnboo and Parlin, Planning Director Karen Garner, State Sen. Marie Alvarado-Gil staff, Asm. Heather Hadwick staff, non-profits and numerous businesses donating to a good cause.

Forest Management Works With RCD

RCD

The El Dorado & Georgetown Divide Resource Conservation District (RCD) has been performing forest and vegetation management project across El Dorado County. RCD District Manager Mark Egbert recently received a call regarding work completed by RCD and a local Fire Safe Council near the Mobile Fire. The ground clearing and other vegetation management work had caused the fire to spread slowly and remain low to the ground, thereby avoiding climbing into tree canopies and making the wildfire easier to fight. The call received by District Manager Egbert was complimentary and grateful due to how the vegetation management work had prevented wildfire spreading. The resident expressed tremendous gratitude towards RCD for their work masticating lands near Kelsey, CA. Residents should take vegetation management projects seriously and do their part to help ensure that potential wildfire hazards are mitigated. The District 2 office of Supervisor Turnboo congratulates RCD and looks forward to our ongoing partnership to ensure the safety of El Dorado County.

Wagon Train Rides Again

Highway 50 Association

The Highway 50 Association hosted the 76th Annual Wagon Train from May 31 – June 7, to embrace our cultural heritage by bringing local history back to life. In 1949, the first modern day Wagon Train was formed to remember the 100th anniversary of the California "Gold Rush". The Wagon Train travels west from Lake Tahoe to Placerville along Highway 50, following the "Roaring Road" pathway that wagons traveled entering California. The tradition honors the struggle that people endured to seek out a better life for their families and provides a modern way to experience how life was in El Dorado County when California became a state. The Highway 50 Association provides a Wagon Train gallery, events, membership and sponsorship information.
