USDA Target Area Map

-

US Department of Agriculture

A recent Secretarial Memo issued by U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins directs federal personnel to increase timber quotas by 25% on nearly 113 million acres of national forests. The accompanying map shows target areas across California, including the Eldorado National Forest. The USDA Secretary said streamlining permitting for increased logging production will help "to achieve relief from threats to public health and safety, critical infrastructure, and/or mitigation of threats to natural resources … These actions will improve the durability, resilience, and resistance to fire, insects, and disease within national forests.” The Memo is part of a larger effort to ensure American resources are properly managed for generations to come.

The District 2 Office of Supervisor George Turnboo is pleased with federal actions to bring logging back to El Dorado County, which we believe will prevent wildfires, provide better access through maintained forest roads and bring back good paying jobs for residents.
