Fix Our Forests Act (H.R. 471)
.
-
The Fix Our Forests Act (H.R. 471) was brought forward to the 119th Congress by Bruce Westerman of Arkansas and supported by El Dorado County representatives Tom McClintock and Kevin Kiley. The bill establishes requirements for managing forests on federal land, which include minimizing wildfire threats, expediting review processes for forest management projects and forest restoration and stewardship. The Eldorado National Forest represents a significant portion of lands in El Dorado County, so this welcome news will help facilitate better management of our local forests. After numerous wildfires in El Dorado County, including the catastrophic Caldor Fire in 2021, the local forests on federal land are in dire need of management and restoration. The Fix Our Forests Act has passed the U.S. House of Representatives and is being reviewed by the U.S. Senate for approval. The Fix Our Forests Act is an example of our federal representatives responding to the needs of our region and providing much needed direction to federal agencies to help safeguard communities.
