Mission to Honor Veterans 2024 Event

Supervisor Turnboo attended the Mission to Honor Veterans event at Foothills Church in Cameron Park. The event is an opportunity for veterans to virtually experience the National War Memorials in Washington, D.C. without leaving their local area. The event included a number of presentations and activities created to honor the service of veterans. Supervisor Turnboo had lunch with a 99-year-old veteran named Salvatore Giovanni Gigante who was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1943 and shared stories about his time serving in WW2. During the war in the South Pacific, Gigante was stationed in Papua New Guinea and came down with Dengue Fever, but once recovered, Gigante would sustain a leg injury during a Japanese bombing attack. It was only much later in life that Gigante would receive the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service.

Supervisor Turnboo joined Supervisor Hidahl for a portion of the event dedicated to passing out pins and challenge coins as honoraria for the veterans. The stories told by the veterans were incredible and show the will and determination of our military. Both Supervisors honored each veteran they met and thanked each veteran for their service. Supervisor Turnboo's father was a military veteran who served in the Korean War as one of the Chosin Few, so Supervisor Turnboo recognizes the importance of honoring military veterans.

EDWA 2024 Fall Plenary Event

Supervisor Turnboo attended the Fall 2024 Countywide Plenary for Water hosted by the El Dorado Water Agency (EDWA). The Plenary promotes better understanding of water resource challenges and opportunities in El Dorado County and watershed in our region. Participants are invited to discuss how to improve management of interrelated resources as well as provide updates and concerns. EDWA remains cautiously optimistic about the future of water in El Dorado County by maintaining a forward-thinking and collaborative approach to align and encourage mutual support among partners. The Plenary includes representatives from water agencies, energy utilities, government watershed managers, businesses, community organizations and leaders from our region. The Plenary is convened to support collaboration among regional stakeholders to promote economic prosperity, watershed health, and community resilience. EDWA facilitates timely themed gatherings to provide opportunities for convergence on management strategies and focus for continued collaboration and progress. EDWA works to ensure El Dorado County has reliable, accessible, and affordable water to meet urban and agricultural needs, which requires considerable planning to maintain economic prosperity, environmental protection and rural agriculture that has become a way of life for locals.
