Remember the Caldor Fire of 2021. The town of Grizzly Flats was decimated by the wildfire blaze that lasted 68 days, burned more than 1,000 structures over 221,000 acres across El Dorado, Alpine and Amador Counties and injured 21 individuals. To date, the Caldor Fire was the largest wildfire in El Dorado County history, and the cause of the fire is still unknown. The residents of Grizzly Flats are still recovering from the disaster with no FEMA Individual Assistance despite promises from the President. Many of the residents still remaining in Grizzly Flats have banded together with sparse outside assistance to help them overcome the challenges of putting their lives back together. Residents impacted by the Caldor Fire still need help.
On Saturday, August 17th, at 12pm, residents will be gathering at the site of the former Grizzly Flats Community Church for a food distribution event that will also be a public Caldor Fire Remembrance event with family friendly entertainment and food provided. Locals and interested parties are encouraged to attend the event and to help highlight the devastation of the Caldor Fire and the difficulties fire victims face in the rebuilding process. Representatives of elected officials and news media are expected to attend. South County Alliance is supporting the event, and representatives from El Dorado County will be on-site to provide Title 25 rebuild information.
