Independence Day In America

.

George Washington Crossing The Delaware

-

On July 4th, 1776, the Second Continental Congress unanimously adopted the Declaration of Independence as a declaration of the colonies’ separation from Great Britain. We honor the Fourth of July as Independence Day for the United States of America. The American War for Independence was waged by determined people who sought to ensure our freedoms today. Founding Fathers that supported revolution were the robust group responsible for defending against the greatest army of the time to provide us the opportunities we have today. Remembering how the United States of America began as a Republic is important for us as we endeavor to create a better future for our children. The lessons we learn from our national history provide greater understanding of where we came from, so we can better decide the future of our Republic. As we celebrate Independence Day, let us also remember how we first began by announcing to the world that we are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable Rights and how people defended those same Rights against all odds, for us.

CAL FIRE AEU

Supervisor Turnboo joined the Shingle Springs Cameron Park Chamber of Commerce, stakeholders, dignitaries, and local residents for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate a new CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit (CAL FIRE AEU) facility known as the Ponderosa Fire Center. The Palmer Drive facility in Cameron Park provides CAL FIRE a centralized location to better respond across our region. The event showed off the amenities and CAL FIRE provided a ceremony that included firefighters gearing up to show the public their level of readiness. The facility is the new home of the CAL FIRE AEU Firefighter 1 Hand Crew to have crews on-hand continuously throughout the year. The Ponderosa Fire Center accommodates a maximum of three crews, which is approximately 150 personnel. CAL FIRE AEU covers Sacramento, El Dorado, Amador, and Alpine counties, which equates to six operational battalions throughout the region. The District 2 office of Supervisor Turnboo is encouraged by the new Ponderosa Fire Center as it will provide a greater level of public safety.

County Logo

Governments are instituted of the people, by the people, and for the people. The people have the Right to pursue adding voter-led initiatives to voting ballots when they have concerns. A recent voter-led Initiative #23-0017A1, also known as the “Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act” intended for the November 5, 2024, ballot, has been formally supported by the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors. Supervisor Turnboo brought forward an agenda item in support of Initiative #23-0017A1 to the June 25th Board of Supervisors meeting. Supervisor Turnboo believes this action was an important step to reaffirm and recognize the will of the people. During the public comment regarding the item, El Dorado County Sheriff Jeff Leikauf spoke in favor of the agenda item and Initiative #23-0017A1. The ballot initiative will provide law enforcement with greater ability to curb homelessness and theft and provide courts with greater ability to encourage rehabilitation of drug addicted individuals. The District 2 office of Supervisor George Turnboo looks forward to voting for this voter-led ballot initiative on the November 5, 2024, voting ballot.
