It was a joyous occasion at the Grizzly Flats Post Office Grand Opening event. Congressman Kevin Kiley and Supervisor George Turnboo presented certificates of recognition and the Congressman even presented a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol. Supervisor Turnboo spoke to the crowd about the ongoing effort to ensure that the Post Office returned. Supervisor Turnboo recalls working with Congressman Tom McClintock early on to make sure that USPS didn't plan anything other than rebuilding the Post Office in Grizzly Flats. Supervisor Parlin was in attendance along with staff members representing United States Postal Service, Congressman Kevin Kiley, Congressman Tom McClintock, State Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil, State Assemblyman Joe Patterson, El Dorado County Government, El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce, Grizzly Flats CSD, Leoni Meadows and many more. Media representatives including the Mountain Democrat and KCRA 3 were on site filming and residents from all over Grizzly Flats gathered in the parking lot for the festivities. Special thanks to Congressman Tom McClintock, United States Postal Service and Congressman Kevin Kiley, whose surprise visit was most appreciated given his busy congressional schedule. We look forward to greeting familiar faces every time we visit the new Grizzly Flats Post Office.

Supervisor Turnboo recently had a meeting with the new Public Health Officer Dr. Matthew Minson, M.D. California Health and Safety Code requires that an individual like Dr. Minson be appointed as full-time health officer. El Dorado County is blessed to have someone of Dr. Minson's caliber working in that position. He attended the University of Texas and went on to attend their Medical School in Houston, Texas. Dr. Minson is a physician, inventor, author, decorated health official and holds five patents. Dr. Minson has had many important deployments, which include 9/11, 2010 Haiti Earthquake, FEMA's Urban Search and Rescue, the USAR Incident Support Team and was even hired as a Federal Medical Specialist Instructor. After visiting El Dorado County on his honeymoon with wife Kelli, Dr. Minson promised to move to our region if circumstances allowed. We are encouraged by Dr. Minson's reputation and look forward to a productive and collaborative working relationship.

El Dorado County owns and operates airports in both Placerville and Georgetown. These airports play a vital role for emergency responders who utilize air transportation. The El Dorado County Transportation Commission (EDCTC) was designated as the Airport Land Use Commission (ALUC), to provide technical and advisory support to the Placerville Airport, Georgetown Airport and Cameron Park Airport District.

The EDCTC ALUC is tasked with:

- Generating land use standards to increase safety and decrease noise.

- Prevent encroachment of incompatible land uses around public airports.

- Prepare an Airport Land Use Compatibility Plan (ALUCP) for the area around public airports, with a focus on safety, density, height, and noise.

- Determine land use consistency for proposed ALUCP projects.

El Dorado County accepts certain household hazardous waste from local residents. The Environmental Management Department provides information regarding what constitutes household hazardous waste, and the proper ways of disposing the waste. On March 9th, El Dorado County will host another household hazardous waste collection event by appointment only. To participate in the upcoming waste collection event, please contact the Environmental Management Department directly by phone at (530) 621-5300 or by email at hhw@edcgov.us to schedule an appointment.
