Proposition 47 Amendment

.

Prop 47

The original stated purpose of Proposition 47 (Prop 47) was to ensure that prison spending was focused on violent and serious offenses, with investments in alternatives for non-serious, non-violent crime, mental health services and drug treatments. Somehow the purpose has been exaggerated to allow for criminal behavior that adversely affects businesses in particular. The original intent of the proposition has been broadly understood and used for political purposes. California residents have grown concerned about what Proposition 47 has become, and developed a petition to get amendments approved for the 2024 ballot. News organizations such as KCRA 3 have been reporting the progress of the petition as more voters provide signatures. Protecting law and order is paramount for any elected official that has sworn an Oath to the Constitution to represent the People.

Community Hub Day In District 2

Community Hub Day at Pioneer Park
Community Hubs

The partnership between First 5 El Dorado, El Dorado County Library and El Dorado County Office of Education to develop the Community Hubs program has been helpful for El Dorado County District 2. The recent Community Hub Day at Pioneer Park was a resounding success with food distributions from the Food Bank of El Dorado County, and outreach from California State Assemblyman Joe Patterson's office. County staff and other nonprofit organizations were also conducting outreach. We enjoy greeting the residents and speaking to them about how they are doing, concerns they may have and updates on work we are doing on their behalf. The Community Hubs are a great venue to conduct public outreach and the events experience increased attendance when free food is being distributed as well. The El Dorado County Library intends to expand their offerings at Community Hubs events, which will also increase attendance. Due to Community Hub Day events, residents are able to get assistance, and/or steered in the right direction without having to travel to county offices. We encourage all residents to locate their closest Community Hub Day event and attend to learn more about what is available from El Dorado County.

Solutions From Sierra Institute

Sierra Institute

The Sierra Institute in Plumas County has been developing biomass, milling, logging, and rebuilding operations. Plumas County was impacted by numerous wildfires in recent years, so the Sierra Institute began working on ways to make use of the green waste and methods of rebuilding that create a more wildfire resilient community. One of the key concepts being developed by the Sierra Institute is wood utilization, for which they have established an industry specific campus. By focusing on making the best use out of all wood coming out of the forests, the communities in Plumas County are benefitting from utilizing wood products in different ways and using different methods for construction that will define future building standards. There are many benefits for El Dorado County to make use of wood utilization campuses, biomass facilities, and new building strategies. The Sierra Institute has been tremendously helpful in educating people about how they operate and how proper wood utilization can be an economic benefit for the community.
