The Food Bank of El Dorado County will be hosting its annual Holiday Outreach Program on Saturday December 16th, at the Food Bank distribution facility. Holiday assistance is for recipients who are low income and struggling to make ends meet. If you are homebound, please email your request to info@foodbankedc.org.

The Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians and Barsotti Family Juice Co. will join the community of donors by sponsoring the Holiday Outreach Program. The Tribal Fire Department and Tribal Police Department will partner with the Food Bank of El Dorado County to make deliveries to homebound residents.

Eligible individuals should arrive at the Food Bank during their scheduled time. Individuals may only pick up for one family. To determine your scheduled time, match the first letter of your last name with the times shown below:

A-I — December 16th from 9am to 11am

J-R — December 16th from 11am to 1pm

S-Z — December 16th from 1pm to 3pm

No pre-registration is required.

The Toys for Tots organization is run by the Marine Corps Reserve to provide children with gifts during the holiday season. The organization sets out boxes across the community to collect toys from residents who purchase a toy and put it in the collection box. The toys are aggregated and provided to children according to the region serviced and toys available. Last year, Toys For Tots provided 7,727 toys to 2,459 children, which is an average of 3 toys per child. Residents of El Dorado County can register children up to age 17 who are still in school, to receive gifts from Toys For Tots. Many local charities support the Toys For Tots effort to ensure children receive gifts during the holidays. Please consider purchasing toys to donate or otherwise supporting our local Toys For Tots volunteers during the holiday season.

El Dorado County accepts certain household hazardous waste from local residents. The Environmental Management Department provides information regarding what constitutes household hazardous waste, and the proper ways of disposing the waste. On January 6th, El Dorado County will host another household hazardous waste collection event by appointment only. To participate in the upcoming waste collection event, please contact the Environmental Management Department directly by phone at (530) 621-5300 or by email at hhw@edcgov.us to schedule an appointment.
