El Dorado Water Agency Event

El Dorado Water Agency

The El Dorado Water Agency (EDWA) hosted a “Countywide Plenary for Water” event with a number of dignitaries and representatives from across El Dorado County. Topics of discussion included community resilience, watershed health, water supply reliability and economic prosperity. Supervisor Turnboo enjoyed the engagement during breakout discussions and talking about solutions with others. Supervisor Turnboo is grateful for the work that EDWA does to improve our local water infrastructure, which is a vital resource necessary for improving the quality of life countywide.

The keynote speaker was the Honorable Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil who gave a focused speech on California water policy. The Senator provided big checks to local utilities with immediate needs. In particular, the Grizzly Flats Community Services District (CSD) was in desperate need of the funding that was provided. Supervisor Turnboo is grateful for the collaboration that the Honorable Senator’s office has provided and looks forward to doing the People’s work together.

Food Bank of El Dorado County Event at Red Hawk Casino

Food Bank of El Dorado County

Supervisor Turnboo recently attended a meeting with the Food Bank of El Dorado County team and their network of community-based organizations hosted by Red Hawk Casino. The venue was welcoming with an all you can eat buffet. There were many who spoke about the great work that the Food Bank of El Dorado County does and allows them to do as well. Promotional videos of the work being done by community-based organizations with help from the Food Bank were played to help give other organizations ideas for their operations. Through forward thinking ideas like holding a helpful meeting for their network of community-based organizations, the Food Bank of El Dorado County is creating a stronger and more resilient community throughout El Dorado County.

For 23 years the Food Bank of El Dorado County has helped our neighbors who struggle to make ends meet. The Food Bank has relationships with many local non-profit organizations, businesses and government agencies to ensure people are fed. The Food Bank welcomes visitors and volunteers who want to help feed people, and there are other ways to give help as well. If you or anyone you know, is in need of food, contact the Food Bank of El Dorado County.

EDC Owner/Builder Ordinance

-

El Dorado County Seal

Supervisor Turnboo is pushing for El Dorado County to adopt an “Owner/Builder Ordinance” to help the residents, especially those still trying to recover in Grizzly Flats. The ordinance would be derived from Butte County’s Title 25 Limited Density Owner-Built Rural Dwellings ordinance to provide allowances for lumber and dwelling flexibility to reduce costs on new construction. The Planning and Building Department is reviewing the Butte County ordinance to make a proper determination how the language can be altered to better fit the needs of El Dorado County. Since the ordinance is currently being reviewed, we ask that residents stay tuned for further updates. Supervisor Turnboo believes this is a step in the right direction.

"It's very special to me and it is special for the people of Grizzly Flat who lost everything they have," Turnboo said. "This helps them try to rebuild in a rural community that has been so desolate (after) the Caldor Fire."

"I'd really appreciate if we can get this back ASAP, because winter is coming ... anything we can do to help them and give them some kind of shelter," Turnboo said to staff during the meeting.
