Letter to FEMA Administrator

.

Supervisor Turnboo wrote a letter to FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell to request help from FEMA for homes. Supervisor Turnboo is focused on trying to rebuild the community of Grizzly Flats and the dominant concern of residents is housing. Since FEMA Individual Assistance was routinely denied to survivors of the Caldor Fire, Supervisor Turnboo wanted to reach out to FEMA in the hope of a different opportunity that focuses primarily on homes.

Letter to FEMA Administrator

We encourage everyone to write letters to FEMA and the President in support of homes for Grizzly Flats.

Grizzly Flats CSD Meeting
Grizzly Flats CSD

Supervisor Turnboo and Supervisor Thomas met with the Grizzly Flats CSD stakeholders to discuss operations and funding. The water infrastructure being utilized by Grizzly Flats CSD is out of date, deteriorating and requiring constant maintenance. The amount of work related to maintenance has become overwhelming for staff and resulted in cost overruns. Supervisor Turnboo and Supervisor Thomas heard the concerns of Grizzly Flats CSD staff as they explained the extent of the damage caused by the Caldor Fire and are working collaboratively to help secure funding for new water infrastructure. El Dorado County is dedicated to supporting local Community Services Districts (CSD) to meet the needs of local residents.

Resource Conservation District

Resource Conservation District (RCD) is a grassroots government organization that advises and assists individual landowners and public agencies in planning and implementation of conservation practices for the protection, restoration, or development of land, water, and related natural resources. The El Dorado County Resource Conservation District and Georgetown Divide Resource Conservation District are local, independent, non-enforcement, non-regulatory, self-governed districts organized under Division 9 of the Public Resource Code. An example of the work RCD does is their seedling program. Our local RCD has many projects and programs under their direction and provides recent project updates. The public is encouraged to reach out to RCD, either by contacting RCD, or by attending one of the RCD meetings.

John Adams Academy

John Adams Academy is a charter school dedicated to restoring America’s heritage by developing servant-leaders who are keepers and defenders of the principles of freedom for which our Founding Fathers pledge their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor. John Adams Academy has a campus located in El Dorado Hills, which provides an alternative source of education for children in El Dorado County. They set a new standard for education by providing a more professional culture within the school grounds based on ten core values, including: appreciation of our national heritage, public and private virtue, emphasis on mentors and classics, scholar empowered learning, fostering creativity and entrepreneurial spirit, high standards of academic excellence, modeling what we teach, abundance mentality, building a culture of greatness, self-governance, personal responsibility, and accountability. An example of a cultural difference with John Adams Academy compared to other schools is the term “scholar” being used instead of the term “student”. John Adams Academies, Inc, is preparing future leaders and statesmen through principle-based education centered in classics and great mentors. Scholars enjoy a classical liberal arts curriculum encompassing history, English, math, visual and performing arts, laboratory science, foreign language, physical education, and college prep electives. Founded in 2010, with the El Dorado Hills location opening in 2017, John Adams Academy is fully accredited by the School Commission of the Western Association of Schools and College (WASC). Parents looking into educational options for their children should consider John Adams Academy.
