Caldor Fire Remembered
.
Remember the Caldor Fire of 2021. We are in the post-fire recovery mode without yet knowing how it began. We know what caused the fire to grow out of control: a lack of forest management policies, reduction in logging, completion of fuel reduction projects, and an outdated firefighting strategy. The community of Grizzly Flats still has tremendous needs to restore what has been lost. El Dorado County is still working to get FEMA Individual Assistance, or any Federal or State assistance to help residents of Grizzly Flats and the West Slope. We will continue to push for individual assistance, encourage infrastructure rebuilding efforts and better prepare for disaster emergencies with the lessons learned during the Caldor Fire.
We encourage El Dorado County residents to keep the Grizzly Flats restoration effort in their thoughts and help in any way to rebuild the community.

The attendees were shocked and dismayed at the descriptions and stories that Supervisor Turnboo shared regarding our wildfire experiences in El Dorado County. Supervisor Turnboo spoke with many dignitaries and officials about the issues El Dorado County is facing due to wildfire and lacking forest management through logging, especially when it comes to Grizzly Flats experience. He prepared an official letter that he used as his main speech, in addition to a presentation hand-out, including various property owner’s personal stories and large historic wildfire map of (1915 to current) as prepared by the El Dorado County Surveyor’s office GIS system.
