The Food Bank of El Dorado County is honored to be selected as the 2023 California Nonprofit of the Year by 5th District Assemblyman Joe Patterson.
The Food Bank of El Dorado County opened its doors 23 years ago as a grassroots organization with one goal in mind; to help feed those facing food insecurity. With that resolution, the Food Bank has partnered with 30 community-based organizations that have been strategically placed throughout the county. This Emergency Food Assistance Network consisting of faith-based organizations, dining halls, maternity homes, violence-free shelters, youth organizations, county probation departments, and county libraries. The network has been the cornerstone for providing food assistance to our neighbors that need a little extra daily help.
“This award belongs to El Dorado County as a whole”, states Mike Sproull, Food Bank of El Dorado County founder. “Without the assistance of our community businesses, local government, our generous donors, 30 partner agencies, hardworking volunteers, and the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians, the Food Bank of El Dorado County would not be what it is today. Working together with these amazing individuals and organizations has allowed the Food Bank to expand its reaches. It increases the ability to serve even more seniors through our Elder Outreach Program, deliver to more Veterans through our No Vet Goes Hungry Program, and distribute more produce at our free farmer’s markets. Working together with the California Listos program and CalOES, we are also able to provide our community members with emergency preparedness, response, and recovery material.
Assemblyman Patterson not only recognizes the day-to-day work and the safety net the Food Bank maintains, but also the Food Bank of El Dorado County’s contribution to our neighbors impacted by the Caldor Fire. “What the Food Bank of El Dorado County does for our community is simply amazing. They are more than just a food bank for folks needing help to feed their families, but also an Emergency Resource Center that is critical to residents of El Dorado County when facing a hardship that goes beyond food”.
Humbled by this award, the Food Bank of El Dorado County would like to graciously thank the El Dorado County community, and Assemblyman Joe Patterson for recognizing the efforts the Food Bank makes to help our neighbors facing hunger each day.
