The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors attended the Farm Day event at the El Dorado County Fair and Event Center. El Dorado County Ag in the Classroom hosted more than 1,300 third grade students to venture around and learn about agriculture in El Dorado County. All five Supervisors enjoyed their time touring around the different booths and presentations for the children, and learning a few things themselves. Supervisor Turnboo and Supervisor Hidahl took time to look at logging equipment as well. Everyone was very friendly and the Board of Supervisors was grateful for the invitation to attend the annual Farm Day event.

The El Dorado and Alpine Counties Department of Agriculture Weights and Measures (Ag Department) is dedicated to assisting the residents of El Dorado County through various programs and services. The mission of the Ag Department is to protect, enhance, and promote the preservation of agriculture and the environment, sustain public health, safety, and the welfare of all citizens, all the while providing consumer and marketplace protection through the fair and equitable enforcement of laws and regulations. Part of what the Ag Department does is setting standards for agriculture work, such as Standards for Bird Frightening Devices, or crop assessments such as the damage caused by the Caldor Fire assessment form. Additionally, the Ag Department manages pesticide registration and regulation, nursery inspections and compliance, organic production, pest detection, weed abatement, crop statistics, wildlife services, land use information, and consumer and business protection through the weights and measures program. On July 19, 2004, the Board of Supervisors adopted a new General Plan for El Dorado County. The El Dorado County General Plan is a basic planning document and is the vehicle through which El Dorado County addresses, balances and fits together the competing interests and needs of residents. The General Plan works like a “blueprint” for development throughout the county. The adoption of ordinances, resolutions and approval of other programs are focused around implementing the General Plan. The primary elements of the General Plan are: Land Use, Transportation and Circulation, Housing, Public Services and Utilities, Public Health, Safety Additional parts of the General Plan include: Supporting Documents, Housing Element, Integrated Natural Resources Management, Land Use Policy and Historic Land Use Maps.
