Grizzly Flats Tour With State Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil

The Honorable State Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil and her staff joined Supervisor Turnboo on a tour of Grizzly Flats, including the Grizzly Flats Community Services District (CSD), site of future Post Office, and residential properties. Tour attendees met with locals to discuss how they were impacted by the Caldor Fire. During the Grizzly Flats CSD portion of the tour, Marie graciously presented Grizzly Flats CSD employee Ethan Markes with an award for his diligent efforts to keep the water flowing. Local residents Mac and Kathy shared their stories about life in Grizzly Flats before, during and after the Caldor Fire. Supervisor Turnboo was very grateful to the residents of Grizzly Flats for being so inviting toward our group during the visit. Supervisor Turnboo is still pushing for FEMA Individual Assistance to be provided to the victims of the Caldor Fire who lost everything in Grizzly Flats. Special thanks to the Honorable State Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil and her staff for joining on a tour of Grizzly Flats.

Project Frontier Information

-

El Dorado County has created a Project Frontier Information website for residents to stay up-to-date on the latest information concerning the project. For people unfamiliar with the project, the EDH APAC website for Project Frontier is helpful. The Frequently Asked Questions (Fact Sheet) helps to explain questions and concerns. Specific questions and concerns should be directed to the correct person, but if you need help to find that person, feel free to reach out to the District 2 office of Supervisor George Turnboo at (530) 621-5651 or by email at bostwo@edcgov.us .

Note: Supervisors must remain neutral towards any project, including Project Frontier, until the project is brought before the Board of Supervisors, or the Supervisor would have to recuse themselves from voting when the project is brought forward.

El Dorado County Civil Grand Jury

El Dorado County Civil Grand Jury

A time-honored tradition since 1854, the El Dorado County Civil Grand Jury is a panel of 19 residents investigating county, city government and special districts. The term is from July 1 to June 30 each year. Grand Jurors must be a resident of El Dorado County for at least 1 year, be 18 years old, sufficient knowledge of English and possess ordinary intelligence, sound judgement and fair character. Jurors should expect to spend at least 6 to 8 hours per week, receiving a $15 per day stipend and mileage reimbursement.

The Civil Grand Jury reviews and evaluates procedures, methods and systems utilized by local government to determine if they can be made more efficient and effective. The Civil Grand Jury may examine any aspect of county government, city government and special districts including public schools, and may follow-up on complaints brought to it by the public. The California Penal Code requires the Civil Grand Jury to:

  • Inquire into the condition and management of all correctional institutions within the county.
  • Investigate and report on the operations, accounts and records of county officers, departments or functions.
  • Inquire into the willful or corrupt misconduct of public officers and employees.
  • Submit a public final report of its findings and recommendations before the end of its term.

As a Grand Juror, you will have access to all levels of government personnel and documents to ensure your investigations are thorough and of significance to help our County be more efficient and effective. A Civil Grand Jury brochure is available, along with a Complaint Form, Reports and Responses, and How to Apply to join. The Civil Grand Jury can be contacted directly at (530) 621-7477 or by email at contact@edcgrandjury.com.

VITA Free Tax Preparation

VITA Free Tax Prep

Volunteer income tax counselors will be available at various locations throughout El Dorado County through May 15th. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is sponsored by the United Way, California Capital Region, and the Tax-Aide program sponsored by the AARP Foundation. Both programs are operated under the auspices of the IRS tax assistance program. All volunteer tax preparers receive IRS training and must pass and IRS certification test. Tax returns are governed by strict ethics, security, and privacy rules.

Typical tax preparation appointments last for one hour. An interview will be conducted to assess your tax situation, prepare your return, quality review your return with you, and, if approved, an e-file of Federal or State tax returns. Complex tax situations including depreciation, business inventory and cryptocurrencies are beyond the scope of these programs. Volunteers are trained in itemized deductions, Schedule C for small business, and Schedule D for investment income. The VITA program has an additional limitation of a maximum of $66,000 Adjusted Gross Income per return. AARP Tax-Aide has no income limitations.
