El Dorado County Historical Museum
-
El Dorado County has rich history dating back before the gold rush era. Over hundreds of years, our region has undergone many changes, which helped build the communities we live in today. The stories, mines, and railroad are examples of local history that have been preserved through the years. El Dorado County works to preserve our history in many ways, such as the Historic Society or the Historic Design Zoning Overlay. El Dorado County was one of the most populated regions in western North America at one time, and we want to preserve our historic resources for future generations to experience.
The El Dorado County Historical Museum started in 1974 and is supported in part, by the County of El Dorado. The Museum focuses on the rich cultural history of our region. Residents can take a virtual tour with El Dorado County Historical Museum director and curator Mary Cory. Special exhibits about gold miners, individual rights, railroads, and more are available online. For specific research, residents can fill out a Research Request Form. The Historical Museum offers a list of places to visit that also hold historic importance for our region. Museum Commission agendas and minutes are also available, and Museum Administrator can be reached at (530) 621-5828 or contact the museum directly.

VITA Free Tax Preparation
-
Volunteer income tax counselors will be available at various locations throughout El Dorado County through May 15th. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is sponsored by the United Way, California Capital Region, and the Tax-Aide program sponsored by the AARP Foundation. Both programs are operated under the auspices of the IRS tax assistance program. All volunteer tax preparers receive IRS training and must pass and IRS certification test. Tax returns are governed by strict ethics, security, and privacy rules.
Typical tax preparation appointments last for one hour. An interview will be conducted to assess your tax situation, prepare your return, quality review your return with you, and, if approved, an e-file of Federal or State tax returns. Complex tax situations including depreciation, business inventory and cryptocurrencies are beyond the scope of these programs. Volunteers are trained in itemized deductions, Schedule C for small business, and Schedule D for investment income. The VITA program has an additional limitation of a maximum of $66,000 Adjusted Gross Income per return. AARP Tax-Aide has no income limitations.

Capital SouthEast Connector Project
-
The Capital SouthEast Connector Project is a roadway project to provide greater access to the west end of El Dorado County from Sacramento. The project is designed to relieve traffic congestion, drive economic development, preserve regional open space, and improve roadway safety. The Connector Expressway will reduce 500,000 hours of traffic congestion, which amounts to $9 million in annual travel savings, by reducing more than 38 million travel miles per year. The project will safely connect residents to jobs, housing, and growing markets. The project design is intended to preserve agricultural lands and improve road safety by converting two-lane rural roads into a modern four-lane expressway. The project's first phase includes construction of a four-lane road from Elk Grove to Silva Valley Parkway in El Dorado Hills. Portions of the project are still under construction, and other portions have been completed. To participate or get specifics, please contact the Capital SouthEast Connector JPA directly at (916) 876-9094 or by email at ConnectorSupport@SacCounty.net.
