About Caltrans District 3

Caltrans District 3

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) works long hours, all days of the year, and in any weather conditions, to keep people moving. Caltrans is responsible for highway safety and maintenance, such as road repair, emergency response, snow removal, and many other important duties. El Dorado County experiences high volumes of traffic that often require Caltrans to respond for safety concerns. Road work is inherently dangerous, so Caltrans makes safety a priority. The geography of El Dorado County is difficult to navigate, so Caltrans maintained highways are essential for safe and efficient travel.

Caltrans has several management districts, and El Dorado County resides in Caltrans District 3 (Marysville/Sacramento). Caltrans District 3 includes the following California counties: Butte, Colusa, El Dorado, Glenn, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba. Public information is available from Caltrans District 3, and Caltrans road information is available at roads.dot.ca.gov. Caltrans can be contacted directly, or residents can submit a non-emergency customer service request. There are also job opportunities to work for Caltrans.

Vacation Home Rental Enforcement

County Seal

El Dorado County regulates and enforces the Vacation Home Rental (VHR) industry, excluding incorporated cities. City of South Lake Tahoe and City of Placerville maintain their own city specific enforcement policies concerning VHR properties. Planning Services administers the VHR permitting process, and Code Enforcement administers the VHR enforcement program. Due to the booming VHR industry causing complications for El Dorado County, the County has created a website just for VHR enforcement.

The Vacation Home Rental Enforcement website allows El Dorado County residents to file a complaint, look up permits/cases, or learn about VHR enforcement. The County also provides a newsletter, links and a list of common violations to help educate people interested in VHR’s. In order to maintain a safe and efficient VHR industry, it is important to clarify the expectations of VHR operations. Contact VHR Code Enforcement for specific questions:

The EDCTC ALUC is tasked with:

- Generating land use standards to increase safety and decrease noise.

- Prevent encroachment of incompatible land uses around public airports.

- Prepare an Airport Land Use Compatibility Plan (ALUCP) for the area around public airports, with a focus on safety, density, height and noise.

Keep Our County Clean

EDSO

El Dorado County residents enjoy the natural beauty of rural living. To sustain local natural beauty, El Dorado County maintains programs to help keep our county clean. For abandoned trash on the west slope, submit a complaint to the Environmental Management Department. For abandoned trash in the Tahoe Basin, report to Clean-Tahoe.org. Although we diligently maintain disposing of our own trash, sometimes others fail to do the same.

El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office (EDSO) has programs to deal with abandoned vehicles. Residents are encouraged to report abandoned vehicles to EDSO. Vehicle abatement is a complicated process involving specific County Ordinances. EDSO provides a list of frequently asked questions concerning vehicle abatement to help identify violations.
