Wildfire Response Helicopter |
In preparation for increased fire activity, the USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region has placed a Type 1 helicopter at the Placerville Airport for direct response in areas like the Eldorado National Forest. Thanks to Capital Helicopters for providing the UH-60A aircraft and response crew. Helicopter response is critical for our region due to the mountainous topography. In many cases, only a helicopter can access areas in difficult or steep terrain. The Type 1 helicopter stationed at the Placerville Airport will be able to collect and dump water on a wildfire in less time than ground crews, and provides the added benefit of being an aerial spotter. The increased air response is part of an overall increase in wildfire response, and represents an elevated awareness towards preventing another catastrophic wildfire.

Resource Conservation District |
Resource Conservation District (RCD) is a grassroots government organization that advises and assists individual landowners and public agencies in planning and implementation of conservation practices for the protection, restoration, or development of land, water, and related natural resources. The El Dorado County Resource Conservation District and Georgetown Divide Resource Conservation District are local, independent, non-enforcement, non-regulatory, self-governed districts organized under Division 9 of the Public Resource Code. An example of the work RCD does is their seedling program. Our local RCD has many projects and programs under their direction, and provides recent project updates. The public is encouraged to reach out to RCD, either by contacting RCD, or by attending one of the RCD meetings.
