Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings

PG&E

Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) is evolving their wildfire safety efforts to include expanding the Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings (EPSS) to all power lines near high fire-risk areas. The Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings El Dorado County Map outlines the areas that may be affected. These settings automatically turn off power within one-tenth of a second if there is a hazard, like a tree falling across power lines, in order to prevent wildfire. With EPSS in place, PG&E experienced an 80% decline in CPUC-reportable ignitions that could have resulted in wildfire. While these adjustments make the electric grid safer, they may result in more power outages. The EPSS adjustments are part of PG&E’s Community Wildfire Safety Program which includes long-term solutions, such as undergrounding power lines. PG&E is taking steps to promote Wildfire Safety and Wildfire Recovery Support.

El Dorado County Historic Resources

Historic Wheelbarrow

El Dorado County has rich history dating back before the gold rush era. Over hundreds of years, our region has undergone many changes, which helped build the communities we live in today. The storiesmines, and railroad are examples of local history that have been preserved through the years. El Dorado County works to preserve our history in many ways, such as the Historic Society or the Historic Design Zoning Overlay. El Dorado County was one of the most populated regions in western North America at one time, and we want to preserve our historic resources for future generations to experience.
