Potential Public Safety Power Shutoff for Areas of South Lake Tahoe

Please be advised of a potential Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) event for Liberty Utilities customers in South Lake Tahoe in THESE AREAS.

Liberty has activated its PSPS protocol due to extreme fire conditions and has alerted public safety partners, Medical Baseline Customers, all impacted customers, and other key audiences regarding the possibility of a PSPS.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Expected start of PSPS outage: Sunday, September 19 at 1:00 a.m.
  • Expected duration of PSPS outage: at least 24 hours
  • Number of customers potentially impacted: Approximately 7,000 customers would be impacted by Liberty’s potential PSPS.  See map for details.

Customers who require power to operate life-essential medical equipment are strongly encouraged to call 9-1-1 if they are unable to secure necessary alternative power. Liberty will activate Community Resource Centers that will remain open throughout the PSPS and will provide regular updates to customers via website, email, social media, and Everbridge (text/phone platform).

NOTE:

  • The cell towers have a back-up battery life of 48 hours.
  • If you have a landline which plugs in directly to the wall jack you will still have phone service. However, a cordless phone will not work during the PSPS.
