Sierra Pacific Industries Tour |
Overgrown forest lands are a serious safety hazard due to horrific wildfires, access prevention and water runoff consumption leading to drought. Logging is the most effective way to manage an overgrown forest. Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) is the premier logging company on the west coast, and owns property in Camino. However, the logging industry has changed dramatically since the last time any logging was done in El Dorado County. The industry has adopted measures to mitigate logging impacts, including Habitat Conservation Planning, Sustainable Forestry Initiative and monitoring production. Co-generation technologies allow SPI to turn wood byproducts into energy for the community, and reduce the carbon footprint. SPI maintains a Down To Earth Perspective that understands the importance of reforestation on vacant forest lands.
George recently toured the Sierra Pacific Industries sawmill in Lincoln, CA. George participated in a meeting including federal, state and county representatives, to see how SPI operates and manages forest lands. George was joined by fellow Supervisor Lori Parlin, to share perspectives on possible opportunities.

Eldorado National Forest Recreation |
In El Dorado County, the Eldorado National Forest is one of the premier venues to enjoy recreational activities. The local Forest Service has consistently protected our forest lands, while also maintaining the lands for recreational activities. In addition, they also manage and facilitate recreational activities throughout the Eldorado National Forest. The Forest Service provides information about campgrounds, roads and OHV trails, site renovation projects and current recreational conditions. Popular recreation activities include: hiking, biking, picnicking, camping, climbing, fishing, horseback riding, OHV adventuring, target shooting, water activities and winter sports. While enjoying forest lands, the Forest Service recommends bringing the following ten essential items: drinking water, food, a relevant map with compass, extra clothing, first aid kit, flashlight, whistle, fire starter, knife/tool, sunglasses and sunscreen. Visitors to the Eldorado National Forest must comply with all rules, regulations and forest orders.

Love & Kindness Week |
Inspired by World War 2 Navy veteran Wally Richardson, El Dorado Hills is celebrating Love & Kindness Week starting August 14th through August 20th. Wally Richardson and his quotes known as “Wallyisms” have become something of a legend in El Dorado Hills among school children. El Dorado Hills CSD is promoting a “daily challenge” in honor of Love & Kindness Week to encourage participation. For “Service Sunday” on August 15th, George Turnboo will be giving a sermon to the El Dorado Community Church and participating in their ongoing community outreach. A quote by Wally perfectly explains why Love & Kindness Week is important:
“The future depends on our youth. This is how I show them that they’re all loved and accepted for who they are. People think God is up there, but there’s no separation between you and God. God is always working through your soul, through the way you express yourself to others. Let no one come to you without leaving better and happier.”
- Wally Richardson
