Pioneer Community Energy |
Pioneer Community Energy is an electric utility service provider that is governed by a board of locally elected officials, with the explicit goal of lowering rates and providing better services. Pioneer has no shareholders. El Dorado County approached Pioneer in the summer of 2020 interested in the Pioneer Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program for local control and stable rates. Pioneer has more information for customers, news and about PSPS/TOU. Many businesses and residents will have a choice in electric generation providers starting January 2022.
The Pioneer Board is accepting applications from residents to serve on the 11-member Community Programs Advisory Committee. Applications may be submitted by email to info@pioneercommunityenergy.ca.gov or mailed to:

On June 17th, George hosted a virtual town hall with California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara to discuss insurance issues affecting residents of El Dorado County, including the California FAIR Plan. California Insurance Commissioner has resources available to help El Dorado County residents with their insurance concerns. Residents can file a complaint, review consumer services and learn about senior services. Additionally, there is information for insurers, agents and brokers, fraud and news. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office (EDSO) – Office of Emergency Services (OES) provides a number of ways for the county to reach out to residents in the case of a community emergency. OES partnered with CodeRED to offer residents alert notices when there is a significant threat to health or safety. Residents are encouraged to read the CodeRED flyer, sign up for CodeRED services online or call OES staff at (530) 621-5895 with questions or concerns. OES has brochures about Fire Preparedness, Pet Preparedness and a making a Preparedness Kit. EDSO OES is always working to be ready for the next emergency.

Resource Conservation District (RCD) |
Resource Conservation District (RCD) is a grassroots government organization that advises and assists individual landowners and public agencies in planning and implementation of conservation practices for the protection, restoration, or development of land, water, and related natural resources. The El Dorado County Resource Conservation District and Georgetown Divide Resource Conservation District are local, independent, non-enforcement, non-regulatory, self-governed districts organized under Division 9 of the Public Resource Code. An example of the work RCD does is their seedling program. Our local RCD has many projects and programs under their direction, and provides recent project updates. The public is encouraged to reach out to RCD, either by contacting RCD, or by attending one of the RCD meetings.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event |
El Dorado County accepts certain household hazardous waste from local residents. The Environmental Management Department provides information regarding what constitutes household hazardous waste, and the proper ways of disposing the waste. On July 17th, El Dorado County will host another household hazardous waste collection event by appointment only. To participate in the upcoming waste collection event, please contact the Environmental Management Department directly by phone at (530) 621-5300 or by email at hhw@edcgov.us to schedule an appointment.
